Designed for working and traveling guitarists on a modest budget.
The Martin DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar marks the return of Martin's Road Series, which was originally introduced in 2001, designed for working and traveling guitarists on a modest budget, who require their instrument to be durable without giving up the quality of its sound.
The top, back and sides are crafted of solid sapele and braced for resonance and projection. The DRS1 neck is built with multilaminate Stratabond for extra rigidity and durability, and the belly bridge and fingerboard are made of Richlite that achieves a similar look to ebony.
This DRS1 comes equipped with the Fishman Sonitone sound reinforcement system, which has a preamp mounted in the soundhole with rotary controls for volume and tone. The Sonitone is powered by a 9 volt battery and has an end-pin jack. Includes case.

Comments about Martin 2014 Road Series DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I own the D-15, the D-1 Custom, a 1940 Gibson J-35, and a few other Ovation Guitars. This guitar has awesome projection, not a D-15, but similar. The sound is unique and maybe a little stronger sound than the D-1 Custom I have but very close. Besides it being extremely heavy and the strap button/plug in is difficult to keep a strap on playing acoustically. Sound is powerful, Made in Mexico is why you are getting a punchy guitar for less than a grand. Another great thing is it has bone nut and saddle, the plastic pins I switched out for real wood (ebony) and that pretty much makes it as custom as you can get for premium sound. The action is excellent, and I recommend the Martin 92/8 phosphor bronze mediums, they are great strings. I will keep this guitar but the D-15 is definitely superior to any guitar I have ever played.
