This is my second Hagstrom. I have been playing guitars for over 30 years and currently own a Fender American Deluxe Strat for Rock and Blues, a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe with a mellow set of flat wound strings, primarily for Jazz, and a Martin DC-Aura for childrens songs, folk, and country. The Hagstrom Select Ultra Swede is a fantastic guitar! The finish and quality are absolutely superb! However, as was the case on my Viking, I did have to refine the set up to suit my playing preferences. Overall, this guitar is now my favorite. The guitar is very playable and quite versatile! The coil tap feature provides a broad range of tones over standard dual Humbucker setups. I wouldnt be surprised if my trusty ole Strat begins collecting dust! As far as appearance goes, this Axe is a also real good looker! Even my wife commented on how amazing the color and finish are! I highly recommend this guitar! It is a sleeper, and a well kept secret!
The Hagstrom line is definitely the best kept secret in town. The quality is amazing regardless the price. The Select's mahagony body gives heft to the overall guitar but it isn't too heavy. Finish is flawless and it was ready to go right out of the box. The Hagstrom pickups can handle everything from heavy rock to jazz. I see no reason to spend thousands on Gibsons, Fenders etc. I would put this axe against anything! Buy one, you won't be disappointed.
