The voice of '60s classic rock.

What do Pete Townshend, Carlos Santana, and Tony Iommi all have in common? Back in the '60s, each of these legendary guitarists played a Gibson SG Special with P-90 pickups—and made music history in the process. To bring this beloved rocker back to guitarists in the 21st century, Gibson USA introduces the SG Special '60s Tribute, a guitar that honors the beloved SG Specials of nearly 50 years ago, in an instrument primed with the tone, versatility, and playability demanded by modern musicians.

Since its arrival on the scene in 1961 (originally as the Les Paul/SG Special), Gibson's dual-horned, double-cutaway SG has been an iconic rock axe, and has become known for solid performance and tonal versatility that is unparalleled in the guitar world. The SG Special '60s Tribute is based around the same revered tonewoods, glued-in neck, and Alnico-magnet P-90 pickups that made its predecessor legendary, with the same SlimTaper™ '60s neck profile that is behind some of the fastest-playing guitars in history. Stripped-down and ready for business, the SG Special '60s Tribute has the look and feel of a well-played friend right out of the gigbag, and comes in at a price that any hard working player can well and truly afford!

Comments about Gibson Limited Run SG Special '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Buy this guitar! its light, has all the sound you will ever need, looks good and won't break the bank. this is my 5th SG/Les Paul Jr. and it rocks. No frills, all kills. the faded finish is like an old friend, but not worn through like the other faded from a few years ago. I'm gonna use this so I dont have to take out my orignal 61.

A Great purchase

Comments about Gibson Limited Run SG Special '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

I have been very happy with this guitar for the past 6+ mos. The P90 pickups are a perfect match for the guitar. Being that the pickups are vintage wound they are at the low side of medium output very much like 60's P90's. They do not cancel the hum in the center position but rather create a sweet ringing tone in the middle position. The neck is the slim 60's style so it feels easy to move around on. The guitar is very light in weight (for my bad back) but still sustains very well better than many Les Pauls I've played, not bad for an SG anyway. I had been coveting a P90 equiped SG for a long time and this is the perfect answer for me. The natural finsh (no stain) looks great with the "worn finish". It is a joy to play with any amp I plug it in to especially my 1960's Ampeg Gemini II 15" combo (with Jensen ALNICO Conceretone 15"). This guitar works well for not just psychedelic and garage but even experimental stuff. It is probably one of the better guitars for playing with an E-bow that I have ever used. I mostly play slide these days and this SG is the perfect guitar for that IMHO as it really sings when the amp gets dirty. I think GIbson created a great guitar at a great price I almost bought two of them myself.
