Forget jangle, this is a 12-string that punches through the mix.
The Gibson 50th Anniversary SG 12-string electric guitar has the look and sound of the most influential electric guitar in both Britain and the U.S. during the psychedelic era, but this one has been given the 12-string treatment. Ideal for players who want the 12-string roar of mahogany body/humbucker SG without having to shoulder the EDS-1275 of Jimmy Page fame.
All of the storied 6-string SG elements are here: a mahogany with a the famous Heritage Cherry high-gloss lacquer finish and a one-piece SG-style maple neck with a SG 50th Anniversary silkscreen headstock logo. The 12" radius 22-fret rosewood fingerboard has the traditional acrylic trapezoid inlays. The 490R/490T humbuckers serve up that distinctive SG bark and bitte. Mini Grover tuners, a Tune-O-Matic bridge with hand-notched saddles, and 12-string stopbar tailpiece ensure that this 12-string beast will stay in your control. An SG 12-string hardshell case is included.
A Little SG History
In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The SG originally was intended as a Les Paul redesign and addressed what many considered the 2 main issues players had with the Les Paul: weight and upper fretboard access. Les Paul himself didn't like it so the Les Paul stuck to its original style and the new Les Paul design was renamed the SG Standard. Even though Les Paul didn't approve of it, countless rockers loved it and made it one of the all-time hard rockin' favorites. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.
