A tribute to the SG that put the hard into the roll with automated tuners.
The 2013 SG ’70s Tribute captures the look, feel, and tone of a heavy sounding evolution of this legendary double-cutaway solidbody, the SG of the 1970s. Like many SGs of the era of heavy rock, the SG ’70s Tribute carries a pair of high-output humbucking pickups for unparalleled overdrive tones along with the characteristic ’70s neck profile with volute. Gibson’s most acclaimed hardware set ensures smooth playability and offers precise tuning and intonation.
This Les Paul ’70s Tribute comes upgraded with Min-ETune™ automated “robot” tuners. The SG ’70s Tribute looks great in a choice of colors, all in Vintage Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.
Built in the image of the world-beating SG Standards of the 1970s, the SG ’70s Tribute starts with a foundation of solid mahogany, a tonewood with a long tradition at Gibson. A solid mahogany body is crafted in the distinctive, thin asymmetrical dual-cutaway style, with iconic pointed “horns” and beveled edges to enhance playing comfort. A solid mahogany neck is glued into the body in Gibson’s time-tested tradition, and carved to a characteristic medium ’70s profile that measures .810” at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th, with period-correct volute to strengthen the back-angled headstock. It is topped with a genuine rosewood fingerboard that carries 24 medium-jumbo frets to maximize the upper afforded by the SG’s body style, and traditional trapezoid inlays.
In keeping with the stripped-down ethos of this powerful performer, both body and ’board remain unbound, and there’s no pickguard to obscure the finish. A PLEK-cut nut made from black Corian subtly complements the black witch-hat knobs with silver inserts and black pickup rings. The headstock is silkscreened with gold Gibson and holly logos.
The SG ’70s Tribute takes its firepower from a pair of Gibson’s mighty Dirty Fingers humbucking pickups, a legendary component of ’70s rock and among the two hottest pickups that Gibson has ever designed. These scorching humbuckers include powerful ceramic magnets and over-wound coils for a sizzling, sustainful sound that nevertheless remains clear and articulate. The traditional wiring complement of an independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations.
To anchor it all down, Gibson USA loads in a tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece with a set of genuine Grover kidney button tuners, a hardware set that partners up for solid sustain and precision tuning. Put it all together, and the SG ’70s Tribute presents the perfect celebration of the SG’s evolution into the age of heavy rock, wrapping it all into a great guitar that brings the look, feel, and sound of a high-output humbucker-loaded SG to the hands of players of today.
Each guitar includes a black Gibson gig bag, owner’s manual and truss rod wrench.
Min-ETune automated “robot” tuners
Min-ETune is a small compact battery powered tuning unit that sits on the back of the guitar — a mighty enhancement to an already great instrument. No need for screws, wiring or routing, in fact the system is hardly visible from the front of the guitar. You can still adjust the tuning pegs manually or turn on the Min-ETune to choose from 12 popular tunings or program 6 of your own.
Always In Tune
A guitar with Min-ETune looks the same, feels the same, plays the same and rocks the same - it’s just always in tune. Adjust to other instruments' imperfect tuning with Reference Tuning and keep that harmony going. Perfect for home, studio and gigging: The internal lithium battery lasts for 80 to 100 tunings on just one charge. Rock longer with the fast and accurate Min-ETune, tuning your guitar in just three seconds and one strum.
In Perfect Harmony
Digital tuners that emulate open tunings are available BUT because the Min-ETune physically turns the tuners, the system is always organic and natural. There’s no delay, no dampening and no dead sound — just the natural vibration of guitar strings in total harmony with the vibrations coming out of the amp producing ringing harmonics and powerful sustain.
With the new Min-ETune equipped guitars all you have to do is PUSH the button, STRUM, get TUNED and ROCK out. Min-ETune is a huge boost to the live performer, the touring professional, the experienced enthusiast, the beginner and novice player alike.
Save time and money in the studio because the tuning system is so fast and accurate. And Min-ETune is a priceless tool for writing creatively with its instant access to the sounds your muse demands. Perfect for the professional – Min-ETune will have you rocking around the clock.
Travel light to your next gig or across the globe, just one guitar does the work of multiple guitars in different tunings – perfect for the enthusiast. Keep on rocking and experiment with a wide range of alternate tunings or program your own and save it forever with Min-ETune.
Spend less time learning to tune and more time learning to play the guitar. Perfect for the beginner – Min-ETune puts a variety of tunings at your fingertips. You are ready to rock? With Min-ETune you can even experiment with open tunings, something that usually takes years of practice.
