Clapton Custom Shop Stratocaster - Easiest to play guitar I own.

By Ron R

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have a 2010 Clapton Custom Shop Stratocaster (got Blackie). I am thoroughly satisfied with this guitar. It is the easiest playing guitar that I own. It absolutely nails the Clapton blues sound. This Strat showed the signs and value of a Fender Custom Shop Strat. Right out of the box, the intonation setup was dead-on. String action was a little low, but it was tweaked to Claptons specifications, so again, dead on. The five-position tone lever and the TBX (treble-bass cut) tone control make this guitar extremely versatile in the kinds of tone qualities that it allows this guitar to deliver the guitar can sound like your traditional classic Strat, and also can growl like any Humbucker guitar. I will leave it to Music 123 and Fender websites to provide the specs. Only Issue (and easy to fix): I noticed the static within a week. I was quite surprised that a guitar of this caliber would have such an issue. I went surfing the net and found that this is a common issue with this guitar. The Fix:You have to have it shielded under the pickguard. My luthier said that he applied some metal-based paint on the underside of the pickguard, under the area where my finger would glide and start the static (was near the middle pickup). Although I didn't fully understand, I believe he also said that you have to "ground" the metal-based paint. I am not an electrician or luthier, but I am sure that any good luthier could do the same. I have also read some other "fixes" (of varying merit) on the Internet, but I believe that this should be professionally done. Anyway, I now have no more issues with the static.BTW, I contacted Fender Customer Support about the issue, and they said that any guitar that is a reissue or remake of a vintage or particular guitar (Clapton Strat would fit this) would be made the same way and with the same specs as the original was made, flaws and all. Even so, personally, I find it odd that Fender (and especially the Custom Shop) would not want to fix something like this once the issue was identified. After all, the fix is inexpensive and easy, and doesn't affect the sound at all. I would imagine that Clapton had that issue fixed on his Blackie. All that aside, I love my Clap Strat. Of all my guitars it is the easiest playing guitar I have, and certainly will gig everywhere that I do.

sound like Eric Clapton

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a gorgeous guitar, well made with perfect tone. This is the 2nd generation of the Clapton Signature guitar, and features Fender's new "noiseless pickups." The guitar also has active electronics, that enables the player to get a wide variety of different tones out of the guitar, not capable with an ordinary strat. The workmanship is flawless. If there is one drawback, it is the neck, which features a rather fat "V" shape, and takes some practice getting use to.
