A sleeper if there ever was one......

Comments about Fender Artist Series Mark Knopfler Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I unboxed this guitar 3 days ago. Right away the appearance stuck me as unique but I was not totally sold. I have to say that the more you look at it and handle it, the more attractive it becomes. As of today, I think it is a stunner as far as the looks category. My amplifier was at a friend's house where we rehearse, so all I had was a TASCAM trainer to play through until practice. After plugging the guitar in all I can say is that this guitar is every bit the equal to Eric Johson Strats, Clapton Strats, Vaughn strats, Beck Strats, 57 and 62 Reissues, etc., better than the Hot Rod series, and in my opinion completely smokes, as in "blows away" anything under the American Special, American Standard, American Deluxe category.

Tonally, it is the absolute king of the hill. I couldn't see how Custom Shop Texas Specials and the combination of the ash body and rosewood board could = Knopfler tone, but oh my word, it's stone cold dead-on the money.

All pickup positions yield top quality bell like strat tones. It's impeccable clean tones bleed into dazzling chiming tones when the amp is approaching crunch mode (Bogner set up vanilla Fender style), and it sizzles in OD and distortion yet retains it's character 100%.

The guitar is alive, organic, instantaneous in it's response time, fingers to amp-speaker, and the kind of guitar that, should you choose to make a financial commitment of this magnitude, you can absolutely bond with.

The guitar was set up perfectly from the plant, although I play .10-.46 and it came with .09 through .42. The fretwork is perfect, I can place the action as close as I want with little or no buzz. The pickups were sunken more deeply into the body than I ever would have chosen to do. Apparently the secret of these Texas Specials lies in the distance from the strings. These sound like the best Antiquities I've ever played and better than the last set of Fralins I owned.

The finishing work, paint, lacquer finish, and all detail were top notch. The tuners are perfect for this guitar. I did get a sticky feel from the back of the neck when I played it for a few hours, but I like that. It's lightweight as it can be, and resonates like a great guitar should.

Case and extras are top quality, G&G, etc. I wholeheartedly recommend this stratocaster to anyone trying to make up their mind which model to buy. It's worth the extra bucks and you won't look back.

Comments about Fender Artist Series Mark Knopfler Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I plugged it in and it actually made minor harmonic feedback from just holding it.This is it! Get's that annoying truss rod out of there by using '62 neck.Best bet: Lower middle pickup all the way to get it out of the way because you ARE forced (in a good way)to play the middle position. Reason- Three Texas Specials.
