a nice guitar at a nice price

By J.W. James

from Michigan

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

The Epiphone Wildkat is both beautiful and functional. It is ideal for those that play country, jazz, blues and older rock & roll (think rock-a-billy, Chuck Berry or Duane Eddy). Because of the hollow-body construction I would not recommend it for music that has high-gain distortion. In my experience there doesn't seem to be any hum that you often expect from a guitar with single-coil pickups. The sound is clean and crisp. The Bigsby licensed vibrato is excellent for adding a little shimmer to your notes or even for fully changing the note (think Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser" or "surf" tunes by bands like The Ventures). This Vibrato is NOT made for "dive bombing" notes. If that's the effect you're after then get something with a floyd Rose tremolo. I am a fan of older Rock & Roll frim the 50's and 60's. I also play some blues, jazz-styled things and country. This guitar can handle any of that. Why am I only giving it 4 stars? Because I wish it had more color options. The "antique natural" is nice but some of the colors that Epiphone reserved for its "guitar of the month" series would be nice to have as standard options, like the metallic red. Yes, this guitar may need some tweaking when you get it but that is often expected with guitars made in Asia. Besides, tweeking it allows you to set it up to your personal preference. One suggestion I would make to Epiphone would be to put a vari-tone knob on these guitars (like that on the B.B. King "Lucille" and other Gibson/Epi models).

great looks, easy to play, great sound

By david-VXVWO

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

Looks great, sounds really great, catchy, bluesy, from aggressive to warm sound. master volume is real handy. finish is o.k., volume knobs could be better. Bigsby is great.Neck is well formed. pick-up's are great. Hollow-body, so it will "sing" easily. Used materials of neck and body are very good! Not to heavy when u are used to play a Les Paul...

Great guitar with incredible tone

By steve johnson-1boSb

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

I first got a Wildkat about 4 months ago. When it arrived the neck pickup was routed off-center, and the poles didn't align with the strings, so I sent it back. However, I couldn't get the sound out of my head. I finally got another one 2 weeks ago hoping it would be perfect, and it was. This guitar has a tone you cannot get from any other solid body, or semi hollow body. It has a beautiful, airy, clear, tone with lots of high end extension and large component of nice acoustic character. I am astonished at how beautiful this guitar sounds through my Fender 2x12 Deville all-tube amp. It is a hollow mahogany body with a bridge block, maple top and maple neck. The two p-90s seem like a match made in heaven for this guitar. Whoever was the master designer of this guitar deserves a Nobel Prize. It is a work of genius. I have 7 other high-end guitars including a custom Les Paul, a customer 336, Fender American deluxe ash Stat and Tele, ..., and this guitar has become one of my favorites. It won't play metal but it will play everything else. However, I find I have no desire for distortion because I am addicted to the beautiful airy clear sound straight through - it is intoxicating. I love this guitar. If you get one, examine it carefully for pickup alignment, neck kinks, etc, and make sure you have a good one. I don't know if they all come out as good as mine.

One Excellent Musical Instrument

By Ches G.- Canada

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

I'm a 73 yr. young picker-Not a Roy Clark or Elton John, but with short fingers and small hands. The action on the Wildkat is as good as it gets. The sounds create what you want and for a very reasonable cost. Craftsmanship is as good as any Gibson model for my money.

Great guitar, especially if on a budget

By JUDD-Y-b-x

from Allen Park, MI

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

Since I acquired this guitar about 1 1/2 years ago, it has helped me to not only challenge myself to be more creative, but also changed my sound. There's a lot you can do with the Wildkat, and it packs big sound for a guitar that's on the smaller side. It's very comfortable to play, and has many different tones to offer. My only criticism towards it is that like with many guitars with a tremolo, the G string goes sharp sometimes. The Wildkat would really benefit from the upgrade to a roller bridge, and I think that there's one available. None the less, with some good tuning, this isn't really a problem too often. This is one cool guitar, and for the money the fit and finish is excellent.

Great all-around guitar

By Joe Brannen

from Huffman, TX

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

I've owned two of these guitars. Hard to find anything to complain about. You can go from hard rock to rockabilly to country licks with no problem. Very, very versatile. Yes, they will feedback easier than a solid-body, but that comes with the territory. Very much a bargain. Quality and playability are equal to a $1,000+ guitar. If you have to have a single electric guitar, it would be hard to beat this one!

the best

By happy camper

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

I bought this piece on a Saturday afternoon and gigged out with it 2 hours later. I have been playing a strat since day one and this was the first time I ever played live without it. This screams like a monster. I beat the bag out of it and it stayed in tune amazingly well. The Bigsby bridge is killer. I would pay a thousand bucks for this and still be totally satisfied.

Can't lose

By keith-9An6T

from L.A., CA

Comments about Epiphone Wildkat Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Bigsby:

The best buy on the market today. One of the most versatile guitars ever produced. Very inexpensive for what you get. Plays great, looks great. So it's made by Samick. It's still a great guitar. Great frets! Gibson should get on the ball and make a guitar that plays this well. If new Gibsons played this well, they would be worth the money, but they don't play well, so they aren't worth the price.
