I have owned many guitars. Taylors, Gibsons, Takamine, Guild, Fenders, and a few custom built electrics.
This masterbilt kind of reminds of the a Takamine Santa Fe and a Steve vai Ibenez acoustic/PR9 model.
Very solid feeling, hence the solid wood. The tone is very even and warm sounding and seems to match my voice.
I put some earthtone extra light strings on and did a minor adjustment of the truss rod. Very easy to play bar chords and you can fingerpick like a madman due to the wider string spacing. Seems to intonate true with strumming or fingerpicking. Frets could use a dressing, but they are not sharp.
I researched this guitar for about 5 months before I decided to purchase. Some people had a few bad experiences but the majority were positive. When Taylors came to the market they were made in America and seemed pretty nice. Now alot of them are made overseas and are not near as nice.
This guitar is great bang for the buck and is very much along the same lines as the commercial Taylors. I think the this model tends to lean to the warmer side of the sound spectrum and would recommend on a professional level.
After all, it is the artist that truly defines the instrument. I bought this without even trying it out and I am not disappointed. I have also ordered the AJ500ME which is the advanced jumbo dreadnaught style.
Good job to epiphone, I would of liked to see how these masterbilts would of turned out if made here in the US. Get these while you can. You know how it is when a great product is brought to market, it sells like crazy and then they up the price or discontinue the product. This guitar will soundgreat,look great, and make you happy.
