The Epiphone Les Paul Special II is an excellent choice for a beginner guitar. Sure there are other off-brands you can get for less but you won't get as good an item as this. The body finish is good. The neck finish and action is much better than I expected. The electronics are good. There is a noticable sound difference between treble and rythm and mix settings. It has a sweet sound coming from the dual humbuckers. Having played the Epiphone and the comparable Fender Squire, there was an obvious difference in quality and sound. The Epiphone felt more solid. The guitar arrived to me in just a couple of days. After a quick tuning I was ready to play. The only problem I've had with it was a bit of string rattle with the E, A and B strings. That's a quick fix with a bridge adjustment if you know how. i was a bit surprised that wasn't taken care of at the factory but not worth getting too upset about. All in all, this is probably the best entry level guitar I've played. I've been a bass player for years and just started playing guitar and this unit will serve me well I'm sure.

I recently purchased the Epiphone Special Left-Handed guitar as a X-mas gift to myself. I was EXTREMELY PLEASED with the quality of the craftsmanship and the FANTASTIC tone you get for the money. Initially, when I had seen the price I assumed that I would be sacrificing tone for affordability but boy was I wrong! The two humbuckers have great pick-up and clarity.
I would DEFINITELY recommend this guitar to any lefty player like myself that is looking for a first electric guitar or just a "cheap" practice axe.

Hey, I got this guitar a while back, and decided to wait a while before I did a review... I really love it, I play anything from soft rock to metal, and most places in between, and have been known to tune down to a low Gb, and the tone I get from it is amazing no matter what tuning I use. There aren't words to describe how I feel when I play this guitar, and how much I love the tone that comes out of it. I have played it live a couple times, and it really sings. I would highly recommend buying this guitar if you're on a tight budget.
