A beautiful replica of its Gibson cousin!

By MillardTim

from Undisclosed

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I purchased my Dot Deluxe in November of 2010. I chose this guitar because after doing a lot of research and talking to other guitar players, the Gibson 335 was by far the most versatile of the guitars on their wishlists. I have no where close to a Gibson budget for this guitar, so I chose its cousin, sister, whatever you choose to call Epiphone's version of the 335 and waited for it to get here. In my order, I also ordered a hard case for the guitar, another thing everyone I sought input from said was nearly essential and about 4 days later tops, my Epiphone Dot deluxe, my case, and a Washburn accoustic that I also purchased for one of my kids were delivered by Fed Ex. Like a 8 year old, I couldn't wait to get the thing open and take a look for myself. It was beautiful, absolutely beautiful. If it didn't say Epiphone on the headstock, you would never know the difference in appearance. That's how good this guitar is, bindings, neck, tuners, f holes, you name it, it looks exactly like its Gibson twin.
I plugged it into my Fender Mustang II amp and played the few chords that I had been taught by my friends and was just mesmerized by the sound. I took it to my uncle, who owns a '58 Gibson 335 that is pristine, he's had it since it was new and its amazing. He grabbed my Epiphone Dot and he was more than impressed by the sound, the neck and the fingerboard and just how very close it played to his legendary guitar. I'm just learning, I practice with it daily, I have had Elixir strings put on it and had it set up a little lower at my local dealer, but that was just to make it easier for me to finger notes and chords on the neck. If you want to buy a guitar that looks and sounds like a 3 or 4 thousand dollar guitar for less, this is the guitar to buy. Even though the top and backs are maple laminates, they are beautiful and the finish just makes you look cool holding the thing! I couldn't be happier, I love this guitar and I will own it until it passes on to my kids when I'm gone, it may not be a Gibson, but it's mine and I'm very proud to own it!

Epiphone Dot is amazing!

By MillardTim

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This guitar is beautiful in playability, looks and sound. I have an uncle with several Gibson ES-335's and it'd take an ear like superwoman's to know the difference. I bought a Fender Mustang II amp and you won't believe the magic that can be made out of these two. It's amazing, you could spend a couple of grand more on the Gibson and the amp, but I'm tellin ya, you'd be throwing money out your window. This is the best Christmas present I could have ever bought myself.

Diamond in the rough... what a guitar for a great price

By 65 Casino

from Atlanta, Ga.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I tried them all - new and used Gibson's - Fenders - just about every other brand, played them all. I kept coming back to this guitar. Ebay, Craigslist, Guitar Center, you name it - I spent the time to find the right guitar with a budget of $800 - $900. I ordered it or my wife did for Christmas 2008. I could not believe how beautiful it was when I opened it Christmas Eve. Shortly there after I had it professionally set up - to my spec's and just had to add a bone nut - this guitar deserved it. I have had no problems or issues with it, the luthier said this was a diamond in the rough. Great tone unplugged, any way you want it plugged in (I was able to get a new amp Vox VT15 and case as well, still under the budget for just the guitar!) intonation perfect, low action with no buzz with 10's on it. The finish is near perfect, the flames are awesome. Electronics no issues. 57 Classics are great. Stays in tune. The tone unplugged just gets sweeter with age. If it only had a nitro finish, it would be my dream guitar. Been playin since the 60's with a 40 year break in between. This guitar motivates me to play almost daily now and wish I had never put it down so long ago. I planned to mod it with Gibson pat. pending p/up's - but no need. Friends just love it and want to play it. Now for my Casino... Great Job Epiphone!

Great Value

By JD Conrad

from Kelseyville, CA

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is a well made guitar, that is definitely worth the money. Craftsmanship is excellent, the finish on this one is flawless. The finish on the hardware is on the thin side, and probably won't hold up over time. Setup right out of the the box was good. The intonation was spot on. The action was set a little high for some players, but does'nt bother me. Can be easily tweaked. Tone is very good, from jazzy to over driven growl. Overall very pleased with this purchase, and would absolutely recommend it.

Go for the Dot Deluxe

By Don Finch

from Plano, TX

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I purchased my 2003 wine red flame top Dot Deluxe in 2004. This guitar has way surpassed my expectations. I love the ES-335 styling and tonal possibility but never found one affordable. The Dot Deluxe has been a great substitute at a fraction of the cost. I have played regular Dots as well and would not compare them. Go for the Dot Deluxe with the '57 Classic pickups. Over the years the only problem I've had were with the volume/tone controls getting very scratchy. I replaced them with Gibson SwitchCraft controls and that ended up being a really good improvement. I could not be happier with a guitar, and it gets lots of love whereever I bring it.

"like buttah"

By A.L. Meek

from manhattan, kansas

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

the epiphone dot deluxe flame-top is a beautiful guitar and a great bargain. as a weathered old muscian of some 30+ years, i'm not easily impressed, but i really was after acquiring this instrument. the finish felt like "buttah".....sparkling flametop finish set off with gold hardware. after a new set of strings, and a few minor tweaks, it was ready for business. i've had no problems, and many, many compliments on its sound and looks. like a good many musicians, i've always lusted for a 335, but never wanted to break the bank for one. the epiphone offers you the size, feel, and beauty of the semi-hollow style in affordable fashion. i still play my vintage gibson sg (72), but was looking for that classic rock-a-billy sound, and this guitar delivers. it's a fat necked baby, but you'll get used to her. got the hard shell case for mine and highly recommend it also. thanks musician friend.
