Dean

A celebration of Dean design with a set neck, flame top and DiMarzio pickups.

The Dean Z Chicago Flame Electric Guitar celebrates the town that put Dean Guitars on the map. It has the sort of finish and appointments you would find on more expensive models. It features a bound mahogany body with a flame maple top and a finish that lets the woodgrain peek through. Its set mahogany neck is also bound and has a comfortable V contour and an ebony fingerboard with 22 frets and abolone dot inlays. Grover tuners and a tune-o-matic string-through bridge offer dependable intonation and improved sustain. Electronics consist of DiMarzio Super Distortion bridge & neck pickups wired to a 3-way switch with individual Volume controls and a single Master Tone.

Dean Guitars' new Chicago series pays homage to the original Dean guitars produced in Chicago and introduced at the 1977 NAMM show. These guitars embody the high quality materials and craftsmanship usually limited to custom instruments

Comments about Dean Z Chicago Flame Electric Guitar:

This is one solid guitar. I own a lower end Z guitar and this is WAY better! The frets a smooth, the finish is perfect – no flaws in the wood or pain, even the inlays actually shine various colours. The translucent brown on the mahogany gives it a vintage royal vibe. The Flame maple top looks like changes tone and texture depending on the light.

The guitar is a wee bit heavier than you would expect, but I can jam it for an hour straight on stage and it wouldn't feel any different from another Z or explorer. The V neck fits really well in my hands. My friends who have played it have also complemented the great feel of the neck. It's not as thin as an old Ibanez neck but not as thick as a Dean ZX. I play blues and metal and these pickups deliver. The neck pickup is nice and warm and the bridge has a well-rounded but sharp scream, good for old school metal!

The case seems rugged, although I haven't beaten it up yet. If you've owned a coffin case, id say its very similar in construction. I wouldn't feel too comfortable "checking it in" on a plane.

All in all, this guitar sounds great and feels great. Its my favorite axe! Buy it and you'll enjoy every second you're jamming!
