Comments about Dean Boca 12-String Electric Guitar:

The guitar I received (in Amber Sunburst) is pretty well made. The wood is of decent quality and very attractive. The fit and finish are good, although there were two areas in the body cutouts that had minor imperfections in the stain because of glue that got on the back when the cap was glued on. The inner edges of the binding on the F holes was not finished properly, but a little sanding fixed that. There is no sunburst to the finish, it is an even tone across the top. Unlike some of the other reviewers, my guitar was not set up perfectly. There was no fret buzz, but the neck relief was a bit too great and the nut action was much too high. Intonation was way off. Be aware that there are only 6 saddles on this bridge, so you don't have the ability to intonate the octave strings separately. This wasn't a too much of a problem, except on the G strings, where the difference between the low and high strings was about 16 cents. I was able to reduce that to about 6 cents by compensating the nut, but the low G goes sharp about 7 cents in the first two frets. After lowering the nut action and the bridge a bit, it plays very well without any fret buzz, and the intonation is acceptable. It sounds in tune and very full. The short scale and light gauge strings make it very easy to play. The neck is pretty wide and there's not much radius to it, so barre chords require a bit more pressure than I'm used to on a 6 string. Also, my capo (a D'Addario NS)works, but it requires a little more pressure to prevent muting of the middle strings because of the shallow radius. The pickups seem decent, and I'm able to get a variety of tones that are usable, even without individual volume and tone controls. I would eventually like to add separate controls for more choices. I find it sounds best through a clean Fender amp. The bridge pickup alone gives a bright jangly tone that almost sounds like a single coil, adding the neck pickup fills it out considerably without getting muddy. The neck pickup alone is a bit thick and dark, but could be useful.
The headstock is heavy and the guitar does dive, but using a wide leather strap with a suede backing helps keep it in place. although you may want to relocate the strap button for better balance.
Overall, a great value in an electric 12 string.

    Dean Boca 12 String

    By Manu Yektafard

Comments about Dean Boca 12-String Electric Guitar:

Every once in while you get a product that completely surpasses what you expected for the money you paid. And this one is it. Dean guitars did great in this line. Not only the action is perfect, but also the finish and the pickups to the body, everything is great. The pickups are sufficient. I play this through Fender tube amp. I can just imagine this guitar would sound fantastic through a Fender Twin Reverb. If you are in the market for a semi hollow bodied electric 12 string you will will not be disappointed with this purchase. Quality like this a decade ago or built within the U.S would have set you back a good $600 to $700. Run this through some effects and compression and you are there. I guarantee.

Dean Boca 12 string electric guitar

    By Dan Ropek

    from Parkdale, Oregon

Comments about Dean Boca 12-String Electric Guitar:

When purchasing any musical instrument I think most people want two main things - quality and value. This guitar has both. Out of the box, it was pretuned half a step down, and once adjusted has held tune with only minor adjustments since. This is a big deal on a 12-string guitar and bodes well for playing it 'live', as intended. For peope looking for the classic, ringing twelve-string sound, the Dean Boca nails it. The first song I played on it with my band was 'Mr. Spaceman' by the Byrds, and when we finished, the other guitarist turned to me and said - 'Hey I think I need one of these!' I think that kind of says it all. Physically, the instrument is attractive (Amber Sunburst finish),and doesn't feel at all fragile - again something that will suit live gigs. The caveat is that the neck IS pretty heavy (as noted by others). As a result, I did move the position of the strap button to the base of the neck - which much improved the balance. Why the manufacturer didn't do this I don't know, but it is pretty much a necessary (if minor) adjustment. Finally, the price - wow! While I never would have sprung for the much more expensive 12-string models out there, the low price on this guitar made the decision much easier. As a result, I have a whole new dimension of sound to add to my band. Honestly, I couldn't be happier. with the purchase.

    I love it

Comments about Dean Boca 12-String Electric Guitar:

I had this thing shipped to me in Cuba and got it within 10 days. It plays just fine right out of the box, and it fits into an epiphone LP case perfectly. Yes: the headstock is heavy and the guitar will slowly creep downward, which I fixed by relocating the strap button to the middle of the neck plate on back. I have no idea why Dean did not reconcile this flaw with such an easy fix, but it took 5 minutes and works swell! I love the tone and feel of the guitar. I strongly recommend the guitar. Once I started using it, I was amazed at the number of tunes that I hear an elec. 12 string on, and it is now an indispensable part of my rigging.

Awesome Electric 12-String for the Money

    By Pro From Dover

    from Dover, NJ

Comments about Dean Boca 12-String Electric Guitar:

I've had my Dean Boca 12-String for about a year now. Love it as much today as when I first got it. I got the Black model and it looks awesome. Played well right out of the box as setup by the factory -- very decent action and intonation. Well-made in Korea. Stays in-tune quite well with the Grover tuners. My luthier did tweak the intonation and lowered the action at the nut a bit when I brought it in for a curiosity look -- first one they'd seen. Only (minor) gripe is that they could have dressed the wiring for the volume/tone/pickup controls more neatly at the factory; wiring was visible in the semi-hollow body through an F-hole opening. Having smaller hands than most I was able to reach in and gently move the wiring to make it less visible. I cant compare its sound to a Ric (having never played one) but the Boca puts out a nice Roger McGuinn type sound IMHO, which s what I was looking for. I'd absolutely replace it if it was lost, stolen, etc.

    Great Guitar

    By Mike Siano

    from Poway Calif.

Comments about Dean Boca 12-String Electric Guitar:

Have had the Dean Boca about 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier with it, except for the fact that it's alittle headstock heavy. But, using a high quality leather Strap corrects that glitch. I test drove alot of 12 strings in looking for the sound I was after, and this Dean came the closest. With only a few Modifications it should sound exactly like the Ric. that cost 10 times more than this.
