Recording King

The sounds of the South rediscovered in this Recording King Madison banjo.

The Recording King RK-R35 Madison Tone Ring Banjo offers players an unparalleled combination of quality, versatility and value. With a hand-finished satin Maple resonator, a maple neck with adjustable truss rod and a true steam-bent 3-ply maple rim, the Recording King Madison is a serious banjo.

Add professional appointments like dual coordinator rods, planetary tuners, nickel-plated hardware and a Remo head, and the RK-R35 Madiosn banjo probably beats anything on the market at the same price.

The banjo's tube-and-plate flange gives the Madison a classic sound, and offers players the option to remove the resonator for open-back playing styles. The Recording King Madison banjo is also available in an open-back model with 24 shoes for precision tuning and classic open-back sound. Case sold separately.

Great sound: bright, loud, and full

Pros

  • Clear Tone Not Muddy

Cons

  • Heavy

Best Uses

  • Scruggs Style

Comments about Recording King RK-R35 Madison Tone Ring Banjo:

Great sounding banjo for Scruggs style playing. The action is very low, but no fret buzz. The head was too tight when it arrived, but loosing it slightly improved the sound dramatically. Compared to the (much cheaper) Fender FB55, this sounds considerably cleaner and slightly louder.

Sounds great all the way up the neck. No noticeable intonation problems. The tuners … I don't love them, but they work. It feels nice to play, though, and sounds great.

This might go without saying for those looking for a quality resonator banjo, but this is a HEAVY banjo. Makes me think I should play an open back instead.
