This is the guitar for you who wants to buy sweet sound for a small amount of money. I wanted to buy a dobro not only because looks cool, but because the special dobro sound is great. I love bluegrass but I also play lot of 70's country rock. It is no country rock with out that dirty swamp sound. This guitar's sound is a little brighter than the other dobros in the fender family though, but some times that's a good thing. I think you are able to get a more swampy sound, but I'm not shore so I'm not gonna wright how to do it. My suggestion if you are a beginner is to choose thinner strings its easier to play, BUT!!! if you wanna slide, stay to the regular strings or even thicker otherwise its gonna be hard! This is a great guitar and its not possible to get a better resonator for that price.

I just purchased the FR-50. Excellent resonator guitar for the money. The action is a bit too low for the serious slide guitarist but it can be fixed. Fender's own website forum (http://www.fenderforum.com/) addresses the issue. I bought the black one. Looking at the finish from an angle shows the finish is a little bit streaky. The chrome disk is flawless. The tuners are good quality. You have to be careful wiping it around the "F" holes. The rag will snag a point in the "F". The sound is unbelievable. I also own a Martin acoustic that is my darlin', but didn't pick it up for a week after getting this one. Mine did not come with any manual/booklet about the care for the guitar or what strings to use or not use. I have written Fender about that. If I lost this guitar I would immediately replace it with the same.

not too impressed

Comments about Fender FR-50 Resonator Guitar:

I purchased the fr50 and was not all that excited with the sound. I agree with everyone else that the wood saddle has got to go if you are going to keep the guitar. I suggest that you shell out a little more money and get the fr48, it is a MUCH better buy.

Sweet little guitar

Comments about Fender FR-50 Resonator Guitar:

Nice looking guitar...It's like a Monet. Looks great from far away but you get closer and you find the flaws...HOWEVER, the flaws are ignorable. The sound it beautiful and it was well worth the money.

What are you waiting for!

By Vettester

Comments about Fender FR-50 Resonator Guitar:

Having never owned a Fender or a Dobro, this was not a waste. I have 5 other guitars from electric to acoustic, and this seems to be the one I reach for most often. It has a nice narrow neck,(I have big hands), a great feel and the sound is not so tinny that it is oppressive. Buy one, it's not a fad, it's a necessity for any music lover. Don't expect a booming sound, it is surprisingly mellow. It plays the leads well, and also does a nice job on the rhythm. A good buy. An excellent guitar. Enjoy.

One sweet axe

By MGEE

Comments about Fender FR-50 Resonator Guitar:

I played this guitar along with about twenty others, ranging from $250.00 to $2600.00 And honestly, this axe had the best feel and sound out of all of them. It's truly an awesome piece. You must try one.

Comments about Fender FR-50 Resonator Guitar:

i bought this guitar more on curiosity than anything else.i found that the guitar guided me to play blues instead of my usual folky coffeehouse drivel.now there's no looking back.cool guitar!one peeve though.the cheap plastic bridge saddles need 2 be replaced and heavy strings are a must.

Excellent tone and value

By Stacy-Lj5GF

Comments about Fender FR-50 Resonator Guitar:

Purchased in November of 2002, this resonator has become one of my favorite guitars. It is the one I always seem to reach for. (I have 6 others to choose from) You can't go wrong for the price. It barks and wails with the expensive hounds!
