      Very nice mid level banjo

      Comments about Fender FB58 Banjo:

I gave it an overall 8 out of 10 rating because that is as high as you can get without spending 2 to 3 thousand dollars or more on a banjo. It's in the same catagory as an Epiphone MB-250. All of these banjos need a complete tear down and re assemble to reach their full potential. I have had 3 or 4 banjos in this catagory and all had hardware that was at best finger tite or missing nuts, etc. Once you complete a proper re assemble, you have a pretty serious banjo.

      Well worth the money

      Comments about Fender FB58 Banjo:

I have played professionally for about 10 years and this banjo is a workhorse. It may not have the slight nuances in sound of a $5000 dollar banjo, but for what this banjo does, it will be a long time before you have to upgrade. Add an Emerson Power Bridge and a BanjoMate tone enhancer and you can hold you own with just about anyone. Great banjo for the price!

      One loud banjo..

      By Dan-BMSfY

      Comments about Fender FB58 Banjo:

I have been playing banjo for quite some time now. I truly like the Fender FB 58, I did notice that the head was not as tight as expected, so I went and tightened the head using a Drum Dial, extremely big improvement but the bridge is too bulky, so I purchased a 1/2 inch Grove bridge and even sanded it down. I also adjusted the neck. Now the stings are closer on the 22nd fret, and you would not believe the improvement. The closer you can get your strings to the neck the better, because if they are too far off the neck, it will be off key by stretching too much. The harmonics are perfect on the 12fret. Position the bridge correctly is very important. I also put some EHS 170 stainless stings on, awesome. Also, buying the correct finger picks can make this banjo even better. I tried about every finger pick on the market. The worst metal picks are the National. Too much metal to string noise. Wide metal picks are not that good. I tried Sammy Shelor picks and did not like them. Showcase picks are good. Dunlop metals are too wide and have some metal to string noise. The pick that truly amazed me is the Ernie Ball pick, yes, its pointed, almost can hit at any angle with no metal to string noise, and you can get between the stings real easy. This is a plus for someone starting out. The thumb pick was even more important to search for. You do not want a wide thumb pick. Try a Dunlop small size. Large is wide. small is narrow and you can bend it to fit without heat. Everyone has the choice. I spend over $80 in picks. I hope I can save someone money on this one and believe me, the FB 58 sounds that good. The best investment without breaking the bank.

      Remarking,and outstanding banjo.

      Comments about Fender FB58 Banjo:

This is a great banjo. I am a type of person that wants the best instruments, because I want the best sound, and quality. I have a friend who has a GIBSON GERNADA. He is teaching me to play the banjo. He told me to buy a banjo. I purchased this FENDER, and took it to him so that he could set it up for me. He has played for 35 years. When he set it up, he was very impressed with this fine banjo, even compared to his GIBSON. I recommend this banjo to anyone under any circumstance.

When buying this banjo, I compared it side by side with a Gibson rb250 which cost 2300 bucks. I could not tell the difference in sound.

Price is right for the sound and quality

      By Brian-Pi1AD

      Comments about Fender FB58 Banjo:

I put a snuffy smith 11/16th bridge on it and it does real well with a good set-up. This is absolutely a great banjo for a starter (better then most because it DOES have a tone ring) or a second/knock-around (why I got it). I have played Stellings and some other top of line banjo's and though this fender isn't the axe those are, it definitely serves its purpose for the money it costs! I think the neck is a little to meaty, but it is something one has to get used to. Fit and finish were just fine for the low cost. I was pleasantly surprised.

      Good banjo for the price

      By Wayne-tD8Hw

      Comments about Fender FB58 Banjo:

The FB-58 is A very well made banjo with good attention to detail. Set-up is very critical on this banjo, when I finally found the right combination of head tension, action, and A Snuffy Smith bridge, I was pleasantly surprised at the tone. It has A bright tone with good bass response, and I have played Mastertones that didn't sound any better. My only complaint is that the neck is A little thick, but i'm getting used to it.
