Deering Goodtime

By Bizdoc

from Undisclosed

Comments about Deering Goodtime Banjo:

Purchased this for a daily practice banjo that was light and easy to play.

It is certainly light and plays very easily, would make a great travel, campfire banjo. Has good tone. Not an overly good looking or flashy banjo, bur quality built and seems like it would last a lifetime. While I wanted a light banjo, it turned out to be too light in the rim area, I had to continually hold up toe peg head because it would want to fall. So to correct this I ordered a goodtime resonator, this added the sufficient weight to counterbalance the weight of the neck and peghead.

I like the banjo, rather plain looking, but quality construction, made of quality materials, easy to play, and at this price range a good banjo for either someone starting out or someone looking for a daily practice banjo, also makes a good travel banjo.

Wonderful banjo.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Banjo:

My mom got this banjo for me 8 years ago, for my 15th birthday. I am so glad she got this one rather than one of the fancier-looking banjos in the same price range. This banjo has great intonation, and the sound is mellow, beautiful and versatile (I started with Scruggs-style on this banjo and then moved more into clawhammer/old-timey/Irish styles). This is a banjo that you will want to start with and keep for the rest of your life. If you are a pro and you already own a fancier or more expensive banjo, this could be the banjo you take camping or to festivals, because it is SO light, simple and easy to play. As with any instrument, make sure you get a professional set-up. If you are a beginner, don't buy one of the cheap Fender models or other "beginner" banjos that have more invested in their looks than in their sound--you will get frustrated by not being able to sound good, and be discouraged. The Goodtime makes it easy to learn... it was very easy for me.

The best Banjo in its class!

Comments about Deering Goodtime Banjo:

I have really enjoyed learnining and playing my Deering Goodtime Banjo. I have played other brands and types but would not trade mine for any other. I have been dragging it around with me for almost 5 yrs. and it looks and plays like new. It is lite weight and and plays as smooth and lively as my nylon string guitar.

goodtime modified

By george mcneill

Comments about Deering Goodtime Banjo:

This banjo has been played by those who play the Gibson and Tennessee banjo and they love it for its playability, sound and light weight. I carry it where ever I go. When I can play better I'll have a better one, also a Deering. Mines been modified, drop down tuners, different bridge and the "sailors hat" cut off.

You simply cannot buy a better affordable banjo than a Deering Goodtime. These banjos play and sound as good as many other brands costing over 3 grand! Plus, the folks at Deering are great. I've talked to them on the phone and corresponded via E-mail. They were always very helpful. Thanks Deering. You guys rock!

A Teacher's Perspective

By Banjo Bacon

from Logan, UT USA

Comments about Deering Goodtime Banjo:

I've been playing banjo for 30 odd years and teaching for much of that time. I've been looking for a good low priced banjo to rent out to prospective players. Students who want to try the banjo but don't want to plunk down the cash to buy one. I wanted a banjo I could afford to purchase and rent out at a very reasonable price AND a banjo that would help convince the newbie to keep it up. In other words nice action and overall playability and nice tone. Pretty tall order in a banjo under a thousand bucks. When I tested the Deering Goodtime I knew immediately that I'd found what I was looking for. Excellent playability rivaling many and exceeding some banjos retailing for over $3000.00. Surprisingly nice tone. I particularly like the open back version. Very nice, mellow, old timey sound. Geared tuners make tuning a pleasure as opposed to the nightmare it is on many inexpensive banjos. Adjustable tailpiece and neck give you all you need to keep it fine tuned. The factory setup on every one I've purchased has been excellent. My students using this banjo are very pleased and progressing rapidly. I guarantee you, if you're looking to spend under $500.00 this is your banjo. There are no close competitors, this is it!

Why settle for less

By Hoboscholar

from Everywhere

Comments about Deering Goodtime Banjo:

I've played many banjos, from a friends to the expensive one in the music store, and of course my own. Not many banjo's have the action of this, and the tone is nice. There is no need for a resonator. I've played outside with it and the sound carries well. Deering has come up with a winner with the Good-Time.

Goodtime banjo

By Jeff-wGPFg

from Maine, Oregon, Denmark

Comments about Deering Goodtime Banjo:

I've been playing banjo for a few years now and don't see any reason to spend a bunch of money on a new banjo when this one sounds so good. The intonation is perfect, the sound is clear and the craftsmanship is top of the line. Why pay money for fancy inlays? This banjo is the real deal.
