Traditional styling and tone recall another era.

A maple, prewar style bluegrass banjo made like the classic banjos of the 1930's with the same materials and the same weight, design and features, the Golden Era is one of Deering's most popular banjos for traditional bluegrass bands. If you're looking for that classic bluegrass banjo tone and look - this is the banjo for you. Adorned with a traditional hearts & flowers inlay pattern, this banjo has the appearance and feel of the prized banjos from the 1930's. It is designed to produce the most sought-after sound, a sound previously only achieved by five-string banjos of the pre-war era. This beautiful banjo has a Genuine Deering -06- 20-hole bell bronze tone ring. The drum assembly and neck shape are designed for the traditional crisp and strong bass notes as well as the distinct clear high tones of the cherished bluegrass sound.

A powerhouse banjo with a superbly crafted traditional tone and appearance. The 20-hole tone ring, traditional flange, 3-ply rock maple rim, deep resonator, and slightly thicker neck re-create the classic banjos of the 1930s. The Cremona violin sunburst stain enhances the beautiful curly maple neck and the resonator's volume and timbre. Hearts-and-flowers mother-of-pearl inlays on the ebony fingerboard and double-cut peg head meld traditional style with Deering's world-renowned quality.

The Golden Era has a larger air chamber like the Tenbrooks banjos which gives the banjos a more resonant hollow sound with deep bass response for a traditional prewar bluegrass sound. Clear, bright highs and resonant deep bass notes.

Great Bluegrass and Old-Time Banjo

By Chris-o2qH_

Comments about Deering 5-Golden Era 5-String Banjo:

Whatever 5-string banjo music you play, the Deering Golden Era will capture the sound you want. My Deering was bought at a going-out-of-business sale at a store, so I saw the set-up I was buying--definintely an advantage. It had a plastic 5-star clear head--a bit sharp for old-time plunky sound, but the neck, the sound, the craftsmanship were all top notch, and it had a curly maple backed resonator--which I have not seen on all of this model. Nonetheless, for the price I'd recommend it as it feels like a 30s Gibson, at 25% of the price, tweak it a bit with a knowledgeable luthiier and it may be just what you want. Pro-quality.

Incredible banjo!

Comments about Deering 5-Golden Era 5-String Banjo:

I've had my Golden Era for almost 4 years now, and I couldn't be happier with it. I play traditional southern Appalachian clawhammer and this banjo captures that 30's/40's era Wade Ward sound perfectly. It's loud and the tone is just amazing. I compared it to many other models when I was shopping around and it easy stood out as the best sounding banjo I could find. I like the sound MUCH better than any of the Gibsons I've ever played, and to me, it sounds better for the Old Time music than any of the open back banjos I've heard or played. Full bodied, round tone, with punch and definition.

Great sound and quality!!!

Comments about Deering 5-Golden Era 5-String Banjo:

I bought this model banjo back in December and have been more than happy with it. I bought it from music123 and their service was timely and great. The only complaint I have about the banjo is that it was not set up very well when I received it. The head was very loose, and the tuners were not tightened. I also believe that Deering should start putting railroad spikes for the 5th string a standard feature, but that's a personal opinion.
