Possibly one of the finest all-purpose dynamic mics

By M. Chakravarty

Comments about Sennheiser MD421 II Microphone:

Having compared this one with the other top level cardioid dynamics, I shall not hesitate to say that the MD421 provides a very superior reproduction of voice as well as all types percussion. Due to the built-in roll-over option the MD421 is clean too. It is rather unfortunate that the MD421 has been sidelined as the reference mic for recording Toms, when in fact there is hardly any overall better-sounding dynamic mic for voice reproduction in the cardioid setting. It handles lows as well as highs with perfect clarity and air, and personally, I would categorize this mic as the best all-round dynamic mic for live sound reinforcement. It is a pity that this mic does not come with the spider Shockmount as standard, for the provided clip is rather delicate and I cannot recommend its use in a live setting. The packing is of immaculate quality but the instruction manual needs to provide a better description of the use of the roll-over switch in its various settings.

The European Standard for 40 years

Comments about Sennheiser MD421 II Microphone:

An all-around superb sounding, versatile, and sturdy mic for recording voice, percussion, and guitar. Substantial bottom end, silky vocal reproduction, great SPL and the adjustable response make this the workhorse in my studio and for the stage. I use it almost everyday, and gladly give it all the stars you have!

Superb for close vocals.

Comments about Sennheiser MD421 II Microphone:

I bought an earlier model of the 421MD to use for Janis Joplin at SF's Old Fillmore. Nothing else would handle a voice like that. Also a good general-use studio mic. The newer sleeve type stand mount is a great improvement over the original dovetail type clip.
