Nice Mic, but...

Comments about Audix ADX10-FLP Miniature Electret Condenser Microphone for Flute:

Very nice microphone in terms of sound. Good response. Great tonal quality with the flute. The problem comes in the mounting. The supplied mount is a slip-ring where you remove the crown from the flute, slip the ring over the flute, and replace the crown. But the mount is too rigid and positions the mic directly toward the keys. As a result ALL mechanical noise from the keys is picked up. For live use, the other instruments would probably drown it out and be OK, but not for quiet solo work. Plus you run the risk of knocking your flute out of adjustment when you remove/replace the crown and it doesn't work on alto and bass flutes either (wrong diameter). I ended up getting a gooseneck and making a custom headband mount for the mic to decouple it from the mechanics of the flute and allow adjustable positioning and it works with all my flutes. With that mount, the mic works and sounds great.

Clever clip design, excellent sound, good value!

Comments about Audix ADX10-FLP Miniature Electret Condenser Microphone for Flute:

I bought an Audix ADX10-FL flute mic when the product came out in March 2005 and I've used it maybe a dozen times since.. I like the design of the mic. It is small, lightweight and the gain before feedback is fantastic. The sound is very good for a mic of its type, clear and warm, a combination that is rather uncommon. I go through the preamp into the PA and with a touch of reverb the sound is lovely. I like the way the clip attaches to the flute headjoint, it can't damage the flute (as is common with other flute mics) and it's held firmly in place. The Audix flute mic came with a condenser preamp. It is a small box (heavy, though) with a belt clip. It is also made by Audix and is model APS-911. It operates on a single AA battery which lasts many, many days. The preamp has a mini-XLR in and an XLR out. I was happy to get the preamp module as part of the package as some of the sales material suggested it was optional. The only low points are the key or touch noise (not noticeable in actual performance with other instruments, in my experience) and the windscreen that detaches from the mic too easily. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my Audix ADX10-FL.
