Old school. New attitude.

Good stick definition, clear bell, and warm undertones with an unlathed underside. The K Custom cymbals are specially designed to provide more volume and cut with a quicker attack and decay than traditional K Zildjians.

Dark and Versatile

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Medium Ride:

If you're a drummer who needs a ride that will project in a rock setting and can be crashed on if needed, but will still be subtle enough for jazz and acoustic situations, then look no further. I have used tons of sticks on it, from a Pro-Mark 747 to a Vic firth SD4, and stick definition remains clear, although the cymbal really starts to become "buttery" when played with sticks that have small barrel tips (like the SD4 and Regal Tip 8A). The bell is clean and bright, with just a hint of cymbal wash that never becomes overwhelming. Even when crashed aggreassively, the cymbal speaks with a warm, dry cushion of sound and then gets out of the way. This cymbal does not ring for days like some Paiste and Avedis Zildjian rides tend to do.In my opinion, K Zildjians are some of the best investments a drummer can make in his/her sound.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Medium Ride:

I now own a 20" K Custom Medium Ride. I needed a bigger, louder, heavier, full crash to add to my setup. I was also kind of hoping that the cymbal I ordered could double as a lighter ride for the jazz work that I occasionally do. Out of the box comes this well-hammered piece of metal and I decided to give it a whirl. What a terrific rock-oriented crash cymbal! When crashed, this cymbal builds rapidly and explodes vibrantly, as 20" crashes go anyway. Once struck, it decays quickly and gets out of the way. I have found that it yields a slightly drier crash, but not desert dry by any means. This instrument gives me that really big, meaty crash that I have wanted. The tone is tough to describe, but think about Eddie Van Halen's "Brown Sound" and this is it in cymbal form. Some large crashes will sustain for an annoyingly long time, but not this one. It roars and dies. It blends well with my other crash cymbals (16" and 18" A Custom Projection Crashes) and it records nicely, too. As a medium weight cymbal, it is not going to crack, but I am not an angry ape playing the drums, either. The flip-side, of course, is that this is a ride. I play with an electric jazz quartet and I have used it once as a ride in that setting with good results. If you are looking for a really dark ride, this probably will not be your choice because it is brighter than most other K rides I have heard. It is also much less dry a ride than I originally thought it would be, and it can get unruly if one really digs into it and ignores technique. Nice stick definition goes without saying for this model though. It has a buttery ride feel, but not as buttery as some other K Custom rides that I have tested/played. On the whole, I think it is a bit louder than some other K Custom rides out there, too. All in all, though, it is very versatile, musical, and full of expression. I would buy it again if I were in the market for it, but I am not using it strictly for its intended purpose. This particular drummer/cymbal connection has to be chalked up to blind fate. I am very happy with it overall and I recommend it to a variety of players. It gets four stars out of five from me, but I am a tough judge!

...now one of the best I've ever owned

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Medium Ride:

This is an amazing instrument. At first when I played with it, it was too bright for my tastes, but then as it became "broken in" and a petina developed on the metal it mellowed out a lot and supports everything well now; Its maintained the focus but become warmer with less harsh overtones. The bass player I play with loves it too. "funky piece of metal" he calls it.
