Great for indoors, churches

By Sam Shultz-TbA7d

from Bryan, OH

Comments about Vic Firth SD4 American Custom Combo Drumsticks:

I've been using these sticks for over 7 years now and won't use much else. I play in churches mainly which often requires pulling back on how much I can play out. Younger drummers often get frustrated playing in church settings because they are asked to restrain themselves. "You're too loud"--they say. I've been recommending these sticks ever since I've had success with them because drummers can still play out a little more because of how light they are. Most schools require their students using the lincoln logs (5A or SD1) that are way too heavy for drumset playing anyway. These are an inexpensive alternative that keep the organist, the pianist, AND the drummer all happy. As I continue to teach drum lessons, I'm also finding that the shorter and lighter stick allows for more finger control and makes fills and drumming much easier. The only con I can find is that they're made of birch and therefore will break sooner than something made of oak or hickory. You just live with it I guess. I buy multiple pairs so that I have a steady supply on hand.

quick, light sticks

By METALFAN8806

Comments about Vic Firth SD4 American Custom Combo Drumsticks:

i really prefer vic firth sticks neway, but these are my favorite, i use them for metal and hard rock, u won't hear this many places but these light ones are great for fast fills. yeah the tips seem to beak a little too easy. to remedy that just switch sticks to different hands to avoid the same one getting whacked on the cymbals more. that will help, in the meantime get these and u won't go back to heavy sticks, it just won't be the same.

Excellent

By Mr.G

from barbados

Comments about Vic Firth SD4 American Custom Combo Drumsticks:

These sticks are really fantastic. Excellent sound on the ride cymbal and a nice cross stick sound on the snare. I use to play with the Vic Firth 7a sticks until I found these. They are lighter than the 7a sticks.

The best sticks I've ever played

By Marlon

from atlanta

Comments about Vic Firth SD4 American Custom Combo Drumsticks:

I needed a stick that was light enough for jazz gigs, but at the same time durable enough for rock gigs. After going through several different pairs, I finally ended up giving these a shot, and I haven't gone back. Occasionally the tips will chip, however even chipped they have a great response on my ride. Also every once in a while I'll get a bad stick, and it will break pretty quickly, however this is the exception, not the rule.
