I like these sticks, but the tips didn't hold up and I didn't want to use a nylon tip, so I sprayed the tip with minwax polycrylic sealer that I found at Walmart. It seems to help prevent chipping. First I sand the tip with fine grit sandpaper, dust it off, then spray it and allow it to dry thoroughly. Once it's dry, I sand it again just a touch, then its ready to use.

They felt great, had good response, didn't have a lot of shock into the hands. That was until the tip flew off while I was playing. The part under the nylon tip is a barely rounded flat tip with some grip for the glue to stick to. That barely rounded part made divots all over my drum heads until I noticed what was happening. I thought it was one stick so I bought another pair. It happened to another. I put the remaining ones together. One lost its tip. No more 5BNs for me. Only 5As. Vic Firth is great, but only for their wood tips.

Hickory or Maple.....Hmmmmm.
Comments about Vic Firth American Classic Hickory Drumsticks:
I didn't put any opinion on these sticks because they just may be the cats "Meow" for some folks. I was trying to find a replacement for my Vic Firth SD8 Choppers. I have a few pair left but I can see the day where I won't have any since they discontiued them. The sticks are fine for smaller hands I would think and I think they are a bit heavy. Maple is my choice and I think I found some with the Vater manufacturer.

good sticks but one problem
Comments about Vic Firth American Classic Hickory Drumsticks:
These sticks are awesome, but they break in about a months range. So I guess buy a lot if you are going to perform live or you are in a gig.

55A's!
Comments about Vic Firth American Classic Hickory Drumsticks:
Great feel if you want a bit more stick than a 5A and when a 5B is just too much. Try them out!

all 7As not alike
Comments about Vic Firth American Classic Hickory Drumsticks:
I like small sticks to keep the volume down. It's hard finding small sticks at my local retailers. I guess not enough people buy them. fair enough. I had some Regal Tip 7As and liked them a lot. Music 123 didn't appear to have them so I ordered Vic Firth 7As, which are beefier and longer. I like them fine, but not as much as the lighter RegalTip 7As. Why aren't all 7As made to a standard spec?? Seems so obvious. C'mon stcik makers... do the customers a favor and standardize the sizing.

Wow
Comments about Vic Firth American Classic Hickory Drumsticks:
the Vic's are all I need, I have two pairs (5A's) and both of them feel the same and they really are pitch paired like they say on the sleeve. My brother has 3 pairs of the 5A's as well they also feel the same as my two pairs, the size is just right for me and they feel great! I've tried other Vic sizes each stick is consistent, I like them a lot

The sticks are very comfortable in the hands - they don't fall out of the hands, are very smooh, don't crack quickly, and are inexpensive.

great choice for jazz(5A)
Comments about Vic Firth American Classic Hickory Drumsticks:
used these the other day for a jazz performance, and i loved them, great sound, not too loud amazing definition on the cymbals, only reason i didn't give 5 stars is because i can't honestly say how well they'll work in the long run, but i still have to say my choice for jazz
