One of my students brought this to our Saturday night beach Circle and I could not belive the sound for a drum made of PVC. It sounded better than most the wood djembes at the circle. I borrowed the students Toca drum to lead with and the weight was so lite I decided to buy one for Facilitating circles. It cures all the back and shoulder pain problems. I recomend this drum in a big way. Right on Toca

Maybe the goatskin will be tougher but last year I bought 3 of these synergy drums, which sounded great and are very lightweight. They are all broken now, the heads split and they have to be replaced at $50.00 a drum. Make sure when you get your drum the head is pristine with no nicks, and make sure it is real goat skin. The synthetic skin is garbage!

Toca 10" Synergy Freestyle Djembe
Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Djembe:
I've owned one of these for a little over three years now, learning more about djembes, and hand percussion in general, all along the way. The longer I own it, the more I play it - and the more drums I compare it to, the better it looks! The goatskin head on these drums has a cool, smooth, resilient feel to it. The skin also seems to very consistent in thickness. Because they're so thin, I've heard it said that goatskin heads are fragile, but I haven't seen that as an issue. With responsible playing, the head should last for years. It looks like that rope system would be impossible to tighten and tune, but that's not true. It's actually very simple, once you understand a simple over-and-under lacing technique that's being used. I didn't tighten the drum until around the 38th month. Tone (especially the bass) seems very consistent on this drum - tuning (tightness) is much less critical than on bongos or congas - or at least that's been my opinion. The PVC construction might lose a little "panache" to the carved wood dembes, but the light weight makes it an absolute pleasure. I love to sit back in my favorite easy chair, place the drum on my lap, leaned toward me, and just zone-out playing light, meditative rhythms. It can also be played horizontally, held under one arm, like a doumbek. Traditional wooden djembes, being much heavier, don't have those types of positioning options. Toca's backpack-style fitted case for this drum fits like one of Jennifer Lopez's evening gowns: tight and perfect. Everywhere I go with that combo, the first thing people say is, "I can't believe you've got a djembe in there." And when I take it out of the case, "Whoa! That's a beautiful djembe!" A fine product, well worth the investment.

Super drum for a super price
Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Djembe:
I just got the drum today. I got the 12 inch Bali Red. It is very well made and extremely light weight. I have congas, wood Kpanlogo and Bougarabou and a smaller size wood Djembe. I wanted a larger Djembe that would not burn a hole in my pocket. The sound of this drum is excellent and even though it's PVC they've done a great job in making the drum look very good. Very happy with my purchase.

Cool Drum
Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Djembe:
This 12" Toca freestyle is one of my best buys yet. The price is under $100.00 and the drum sounds much better than I thought. Base is amazingly long and high slaps. Also weighs nothing and I can carry it for long periods. All my drum circle friends seem to want one but everywhere they sell them they are always out of stock. Great drum and I would recommend to anyone.

The Next Generation in Hand drums
Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Djembe:
I was very impressed with the PVC drum as I did not think it would sound as good as my other drums and it sounded in most cases better. Great High slaps and a base big base. It is rope tuned and would rather have a mechanical tuned version but the price and being about half the weight of any other drum I have makes this drum a big winner. This is a must have drum and I think will change the standards of Dlembes as what can be used for a drum shell other than wood and weights.

Great Drum
Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Djembe:
Bought this drum on a test as we have over 10 djembes already. To my surprise it sounded better than most my other djembes and this is made from PVC. It also weighs about one third of any of my other drums. With a price for 12" under $100.00 I think Toca will get a great response on this drum. I strongly recommend it.

Drum Teachers Pet
Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Djembe:
This is the best djembe I have used yet to facilitate a group. I was able to stand with this drum for hours. It is a third of the weight of my other wood and Remo drums not to mention the sound I can not belive is so good for a drum under $100.00 Better buy this one before it gets expensive.

My Favorite Djembe
Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Djembe:
I just bought a 12" Freestyle drum and already have 3 Toca wood Djembe. This PVC drum is amazing and I can play it on a shoulder strap for hours with no aches and pains. Most important the sound with a real goat skin head is right up their with a wood drum. Bass is a bit different but real big and over all they sound twice as good as my Remo drums that have synthetick heads.I will be adding more of these to my collection for sure!!
