Say it with your hands.

The Remo Djembe is key-tuned and fitted with a Skyn Deep head. These hand drums produce a satisfying range of sounds from high slaps to deep bass tones. The durable, lightweight Acousticon shell delivers excellent projection and is unaffected by weather conditions. A heavy-duty rubber bottom protects the shell from ground impact. The wide selection of cotton print fabric finishes provide great visuals.

Originally from West Africa, the djembe drum has spread around the world to become the hallmark instrument of the world-beat movement. Since at least 500 A.D., the djembe has been used in healing ceremonies, rites of passage, ancestor worship, warrior rituals, and social dancing. Find out how much your hands can say with this traditional drum. Remo's revolutionary materials provide great sound, durability, and looks.

This is my favorite Djembe I've tried. I've played the 14" and the 16". Both are crisp on the slaps, and have decent bass tones. I prefer the 16", and I keep it tuned a little bit looser. The tension rods are a little odd to try and tune since they are right against the shell, but I'd rather have that than a rope tuned Djembe or a high rim. The drum is very beginner-friendly, as well. Soft on the hands. I've also used it in a drumset situation with brushes and medium-soft yarn mallets, where it is the snare, bongos are toms, congas are floor toms, and a 22" kick drum. Always get great compliments on the sound of the Djembe. I'd recommend it to anyone.

until I got my hands on an African Tempo djembe a couple of days later. I fell in love with the authentic tone and aesthetics of a real djembe straight from the Ivory coast. But this is a review on a processed, cookie cutter drum that does serve a purpose. For the price, it is a good deal. Bass tones are good, but the overtones around the edge are awful, no matter how you tune it. Kind of like comparing solid state to all tube amplification.

rockin' remo djembe

By blues_gospel

from Undisclosed

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

The remo 12" djembe is one fantastic instrument -- music 123 had the one I needed and it was affordable. It's a very durable instrument -- the body is made from recycled materials and is aesthetically pleasing. The head is top quality Remo and is tunable. It makes a nice addition to the home, both visually and sonically. I get a kick listening to others slap out some beats, and personally it's a great relaxing exercise for me. I bought the accompanying stand -- it's on the large side, so if you need one to wear with the over the shoulder harness, you might consider a smaller djembe. I can't say enough good things about this drum -- it's a really good instrument for casual or professional use.

Remo 16" Black Earth Djembe

By Moe

from Galt, Ontario, Canada

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

Deep bass and sharp tones and slaps from this well built Remo djembe. Typical Remo djembe sound (meaning it does not sound like a drum wood and goatskin 3-ring djembe).

Remo 12 X 24 Multi-Mask

By P.J.

from Sarasota, FL

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

Lightning fast shipping from music 123. Great service! The drums is incredible. I wanted this drum for a long time. I moved to florida, so I needed something that could handle the humidity levels w/o falling out all over the place. The sounds are wonderous. Nice rich deep bass, tight edgy cracks and everything in between. A real treat to play. I perform regularly with it.

GREAT QUALITY

By Jake-uRxIm

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

This drum is great quality. It has a wide range of tuning and it sounds great. It has great low and high pitch sound. Go with the color you like, if you are going to pay the money at least get something you will always like. Remo really made a great product when they made the djembe. You must get the strap also because it allows you to play more fully. You can use the drum on the ground but lifting it off the ground improves sound quality. Place it on your feet when sitting if you like.

Super Easy Remo Drum Overtones Fix!!!

By Julian-noPT2

from BC Canada

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

I recently purchased a Remo Earth 14" Drum. I was very excited about the whole deal but then I was quite dismayed by the overbearing overtones after playing at home for a short time (as some other reviewers noted). HOWEVER!!!, I remembered that I had a MOON GEL DRUM DAMPER stashed away which I use to put on a Rogers snare I had to get more variation in the sound. This is a little rectangular thingy made of "sticky hand" material. You can get a pack of five or something for around five dollars at many music stores. This has SOLVED the problem to a great degree (before using the gel pad I was really considering returning the drum, despite its many pros). Not only that, but you can place it on different spots on the skin to get a variety of sounds. I am truly enjoying this drum now and DO NOT regret purchasing it. It really is an awesome drum. I'm also experimenting with wearing a very light fingerless glove on the hand I use to do the majority of my "bass hits". That way I'm not getting so much "skin on vinyl" slapping sound (sounds cleaner/warmer). You really need to find a well vented glove for this (just an experimental suggestion). Anyway, Remo 14" Earth Drum without moon gel pad= 8/10. WITH moon gel pad= 9.8/10!!! Obviously different than a goat skin drum, but you can tune this thing on the fly (and it sounds better than the average traditional african djembe in my opinion). Cheers.

REMO Djembe

By bongo boy

from South Carolina

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

I facilitate a growing community drum circle in our downtown, and REMO djembes are clearly the drum of choice for our participants. I own the 16", 12" and 10" versions. The drum's range of sound, from deep bass to high pitched slaps, allow even our "newbies" to produce pleasing rhythms. Add to that the drum's attractive appearance, durability and water resistance and you have a great instrument for outdoor performances, even in the sticky Southern humidity!

does the job

By george-13Oz1

from defuniak springs

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

i purachased the 12x25 djembe to use with 2 guitarists/fiddle/flute in a pop/rock/bluegrass band. the djembe replaces the snare drum and is used with bass drum, hi-hat, ride, crash and some shakers. the 12" can be tuned high enough to replace the snare and it works out well. the synthetic head is a bit hard on the hands over a 4 hr. gig but i live in florida and the humidity makes a real skin sound like a cardboard box after 20mins. so the remo is good option for me.
