When regular sticks are too loud and brushes are too soft, Hot Rods are just right.

Use Pro-Mark Hot Rod drumsticks to create fresh new dimensions of sound. Hot Rod sticks are a Pro-Mark original handmade in the USA of select birch dowels. Hot Rod sticks have a lively, natural rebound. Hot Rods were developed for drummers who want a lighter sound than regular sticks, but with more attack than brushes. In recent years, Pro-Mark Hot Rods have become increasingly popular all over the world in all styles of music.

Cool sound, but get chewed up fast

By kahuna244

Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:

I love the sound, soft yet defined, but even with my seasoned technique I found these get chewed up rather quickly, more so than I expected - which is 1 of 2 cons: Pricey - and. It would be nice if the Rod's tip fans were adjustable. A rubber band works well. If you play really light they'll last some what reasonably.

Perfect for churches!

By Sam Shultz

Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:

I'm constantly running into students and situations where drummers are getting criticized for playing too loud in churches. These particular comments are more musical critiques than taste or preference. The problem that arises is that naturally, drums are louder than piano and voices (sometimes organs). So when brushes get too boring and quiet and sticks are too loud (though I use Vic Firth 4A Combos when I play with sticks), these hot rods are the perfect fit. I've used them in church settings where the acoustics are poor and in larger venues where I'm miked and they work perfectly. However, contrary to what some say about the main advantage of these sticks being their medium loudness, they offer a sound that is unlike brushes or sticks and adds yet one more flavor to a drummer's library of accompaniments. I've heard Carter Beauford using these for some of his stuff with The Dave Matthews Band. Great sound. There are three different groupings with these rods that I'm aware of. Very small rods, medium rods, and thicker rods (about 1/4" each). I use the medium ones. I have found that the smaller rods break easier on the hi-hats and the larger rods are a bit too heavy.

Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:

My son loves these sticks. He says the sound is lighter than a regular stick, but harder than the brush.

Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:

I am a huge fan of these sticks. They are perfect for small venues. I also like them for larger venues that call for brushes. When you play with a 100 piece orchestra brushes don't quite cut it. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a new sound/flavor to add to their library.
