I have just purchased this snare as a side snare for my Pearl Export series kit.....it did not last long as a side snare...5 minutes into jamming with it it moved over to become the centerpiece of my kit! I did not even have to tune it...Straight out of the box it sounded great. Even when I did tune it, I found the perfect tone in no time; this really was the easiest drum I have ever tuned. Personally I enjoy snares with resonance and brutal overtones. Obviously by the name you can tell that this "LIL SQUEALER" Abso-friggin-lutely delivered! Thank God for Pork Pie...Without them, I would still be using that 14 by 5 P.O.S. Now my 14 by 5 is cranked tight and covered in moongel and is working nicely as a side snare....Pork Pie For Life (PPFL)

This thing has one heck of a powerful squeal for the size. I bought this snare several years ago to replace the standard 14x5 snare that came with my set. I could never get the tight crack out of my other snare that I was looking for; found this right when it came out and instantly fell in love. This thing is LOUD! I have used it as my main snare and also as a side snare depending on the group and the venue...it has served perfectly in both positions. I must say though, when I have it on the side I always wish it was in the middle:) The only negative thing I can say is that it's not particularly versatile. I haven't spent a lot of time messing with the tuning, but I don't see it working particularly well in a jazz setting, for instance. The volume can also become an issue in a small venue. Other than that, it's beautiful! It is a great poppy snare and will definitely cut through the noise of even the loudest bands. It is also incredibly comfortable in the middle position...it's amazing what 2 extra inches of leg space can do for comfort behind the kit. For the price, you can't beat it!

I am a musician on a tight budget. I had read many reviews on this snare and ordered it to replace my current snare as an upgrade. It is nice and LOUD, produces a lot of depth, no need to replace the head......just super satisfied. The only issue I have encountered it that, because of it's size, it dosent fit as comfortable in my snare basket as would a standard snare......wide range of sound tho for whatever style music. For the money I do not think I could have made a better choice.
