Good Sound, Very Loud

By scarmike67

Comments about Pork Pie Big Black Brass Snare Drum with Tube Lugs:

I've had this snare for about a year now. I've played everything from small sports bars to 5,000 seat venues. The snare has a lot of ring straight out of the box. I changed the top head to an Evans HD Dry which made a huge difference. I have also tried the Evans ST Dry and it allows a little more overtones. Overall the snare is great quality and sounds really good. It is very loud though. In small sports bars we don't even mic it. One larger size club has asked that I bring a different snare because it's so loud, so I bring my wood snare that came with my kit. Overall, very good snare for rock and metal, but might be too loud for smaller venues and softer music. Love the finish and lugs...looks cool.

Good Loud Snare for Rock and Metal

By scarmike67

Comments about Pork Pie Big Black Brass Snare Drum with Tube Lugs:

I play in a rock/metal band. We play everything from small bars up to 5,000 seat venues. This snare is LOUD. It was too ringy for me straight out of the box, so I put on an Evans HD Dry head and that made it have a nice crack to it. Some places we play have sound systems with a sound guy. In two cases so far, they have turned off the snare mic because it was loud enough on its own. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. One bar owner asked me to bring a snare that was not as "Hot" next time so I'll bring my wooden snare. I really like this snare and it's really good quality. I had a Kenny Aronoff signature 5x14 but sold it, and this is a close second to that.

Big Old Brass indeed!

Comments about Pork Pie Big Black Brass Snare Drum with Tube Lugs:

I purchased this drum in hopes it would be a Black Beauty at 1/2 the price, it has succeeded in meeting my hopes. I travel with 2 snares, the BOB as my main snare and a 4x14 Gretsch Hand Hammered as a side snare. This thing is very versatile, forgiving, easy to tune and stays in tune! I constantly get compliments from other drummers when they play or hear it. Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS DRUM! It is easily the best value in the biz today. Replace the factory head with an old school coated Evans G1 or Remo Weathermaster coated and this thing will really shine.

This thing should be illegal

Comments about Pork Pie Big Black Brass Snare Drum with Tube Lugs:

I own a Black Beauty, Black Magic, i have a collection of other snares, the pork pie big black keeps up with them all. I have the big black for 3 years now, it is one of the most versatile, and best sounding snares you can buy. You can tune it low or high, it has a great crack, i'v even played brushes on it. I did add die cast hoops, but for the price its unbeatable.

Great Sounding Snare for Hard Rock and Metal

By scarmike67

from Undisclosed

Comments about Pork Pie Big Black Brass Snare Drum with Tube Lugs:

I owned a 5x14 Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster and loved it but had to sell it. The Big Black is an excellent alternative at a much more affordable price. It didn't sound too good right out of the box. As soon as I replaced the top head with an Evans HD Dry, it was perfect! I've used it at two gigs and have gotten compliments from sound guys and fans. One gig was a 5,000 seat venue where two other bands used my drum kit, and both drummers were raving about it. If you like the aggressiveness of brass, you'll like this snare.
