I purchased one for all 9 of my toms! It allowed me to match the amount of muffling from tom to tom. Even with different brand and ply's of heads, I was able to get the toms to sound right together. Now I could buy cheaper one ply heads and get a good sound with these mufflers.
I installed these Mufflers myself with a ruler, hand drill, and two drill bits, plyer's and screwdriver. I measured down 1" from the bottom of the rim with the head still installed. made a mark there. Then another mark 1 1/2" from the rim. The larger hole drilled at the top mark the smaller hole drilled at the lower mark. I did have to replace the small short screw with one twice as long from the hardware store. The short screw is just too short for the tom shells.
Now my drum set sounds like it should. Glad I installed these mufflers in all my toms.

I bought a cheapbo set for home use and boy you get what you pay for. My Pearls have a great mufflng system in all the toms so I bought the same ones for the cheap set. Using the old Ebony Remo heads and installing these mufflers the kit sounded a 100 times better. Lets put it this way I would be able to play the kit out cause it sounds that good now.

They work pretty well. The only thing I think was missing was a template to help with mounting and a nylon washer to fit between the knob and the drum. If the knob is mounted too high, it will have contact with the metal hoop. Also, without putting a thick washer on, it was hard to turn the knob as there was just not much space with it being so close to the hoop. As far as working to keep the drum ring in check, they work fine.
