Comments about PDP FS 5-Piece Shell Pack:

I actually picked up a set of these as a back-up set and have 2 extra toms, an 8 inch mounted and 16 inch floor. I read some decent reviews and the price was good, so I purchased them about 3 months ago.

I was actually shocked at how well made they were, and more importantly how great they sounded! I have played many, MANY different sets throughout my career, practically every brand on the market and a few that aren't made any more and I own top of the line Yamaha, Ludwig, Sonor, Camco and Slingerland sets and I can tell you that these drums sound as good as anything out there, no matter what the price.

The tom memory locks are a little fishy and don't set as precisely as they should,(hence the 4 instead of 5 star rating) but aside from that these are terrific sets with nice finishes too.

They tune well, have that classic dry birch sound and mic up like a dream. I started using them as my regular set and now use my Yamaha Maple Customs as a back-up. Yes, these sound THAT good!

I drive a 20 piece contemporary powerhouse big band with these plus various jazz and rock bands and believe me, they do the job and I get nothing but shock and awe from other drummers when they realize it's a PDP set.

Take the plastic straps off the snare and replace them with snare stings and you'll get a real fat, rich snare sound too...

I would highly recomend these drums to anyone from beginer to serious professional. Now, I have only had these for 3 months, so I can't tell you how well everything is going to hold up over time, but so far, this set is a winner!

Comments about PDP FS 5-Piece Shell Pack:

Very nice set for the price. I bought this as my first drum set, and it serves me well. The birch has a great attack and this set is really easy to tune. However, for me personally I went out as soon as I could to get a new snare. The stock snare is to poppy for me. I have a 13x7 Pork Pie snare with a nice crack to it now. I don't really like how the floor tom is mounted either. One of the screws in mine has fallen out and will turn slightly while I'm playing and it's a hassle to take the head and lugs off to get to the part of the suspension mount to put it back. I would have rather gotten a different wood, birch is too bright for me. But they sound great in recordings. I used them to record my bands songs and they worked out really well. If you wanted to step up from a cheapie set, this is the way to go. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a really high quality set though.
