Comments about PDP 10.5mm Tom Bracket:
I absolutely love these brackets. I originally bought 3 of these off Amazon (fulfilled by Music 123), to replace the leg mounts on some vintage Tama Royalstar shells. They looked nice in the pictures but in person they are even better. The chrome is smooth and shiny and the brackets are heavy and well made. In my favor the holes were even close enough to the original Tama brackets that I didn't have to redrill the holes.
Once I had these in hand I decided to use these to rack mount my floor Tom instead of using the floor legs. I then used the remaining 2 brackets to replace the old, pitted, slipping tom mount brackets on the two bass drum rack toms. Gone was the need to crank the wing nut as tight as possible to get the tom to stay in place. Now just a good tightening is all that is needed to clamp the Tom in place with no slipping what so ever. I made the decision to rack mount the floor tom mostly based on how stout these brackets are. With the standard brackets I'm not sure they would hold up to the weight and pounding a 16x16 tom would endure. These brackets handle it with no problem at all.
The only issue worth mentioning at all is the fact that these are really designed to work with rim mount brackets like a R.I.M.S. setup and therefore the mounting screws will likely be on the short side or completely too short. So plan a trip to the local hardware store for some longer screws.
The last thing to talk about is the price. As I said I originally bought 3 through Amazon and now I have bought another 3 directly from Music 123. Cheap flimsy brackets are more expensive than these and the only brackets that are even comparable are twice the price. These really do represent an outstanding deal and I can only imagine it is a mater of time before the price goes up by 50 to 100%. If you're in need of some Tom brackets I recommend you not hesitate and buy all you need now while the price is still awesome.
