A real piece of art.

Comments about Paiste Signature Series Dark Energy MKI Ride Cymbal:

Paiste really did it for me with this one. I have the 22" Mark 1. Great cymbal for fusion and rock. Comes through fantastic in recordings. For Jazz, Fusion or Rock this cymbal is in the zone. Great bell, as with all Paiste's, nice dry defined stick and a very balanced dark wash. Very controllable. I always thought Paiste made the best Rock cymbals, but they made a great Jazz and Rock cymbal with this one. Might be a little heavy for the acoustic jazz piano gig for most, but definitely useable, and maybe be even preferable. This whole line of cymbals from are fantastic, Paiste finally gave the jazzers more to pick from. A real piece of art.

Comments about Paiste Signature Series Dark Energy MKI Ride Cymbal:

I purchased the 21" MkII model of this cymbal range... truly the Rolls Royce of cymbals. I won't waste anyone's time trying to validate or comment on the cymbal's sonic characteristics - one could easily visit the official Paiste site to obtain this information...My learning on the instrument is very jazz-oriented, however I tend to gravitate toward more lucrative rock gigs. While the sounds that can be extracted from this cymbal surpassed my wildest imagination (Zildjian, Sabian, Meinl, ufip, all others... you're out of your league), my choice of stick played a vital role in the demise of this beautifully crafted instrument. The average player uses 5B-ish size sticks. Anything beyond this size, in diameter or length could prove detrimental to the integrity of its structure. Paiste dark energy cymbals are very lathed, hammered, and treated with other proprietary process that alter the structure of the cymbal material so drastically that playing this cymbal in a heavy rock setting would destroy it. The cymbal seems to have no 'ceiling' (or floor for that matter) in it's dynamic range... (most cymbals have a relationship between stick velocity and sounds, whereby any sticking less/more forceful than a given range would result in sounds 'less-than-optimal' from the instrument - not so with this baby; every sticking technique and force applied to it resulted in pure ear candy - rather "ear caviar")Unfortunately, I happened to crack it and I went back to using my trusty signature dry heavy for rock material ;) with the dark energy cymbals, any kind of sticking from the ride hand more aggressive than finger-bouncing or wristing sumptuous crashes from this cymbal is not advised. ie: NO Dave Grohl/John Stanier impressions, kiddies. For the serious musician, using the instrument in a studio environment and for light rock, funk, jazz, this cymbal range will satisfy your ears beyond comparison to anything else on the market. Period.

Incredible

Comments about Paiste Signature Series Dark Energy MKI Ride Cymbal:

Very precise stick definition, nice controlled sustain, gets in and out quick, thick, very rounded bell gives this ride it's true character. Cymbal sound stays true whether played lightly or struck with authority. Very versatile, fits many styles of music, sits in a recorded mix nicely. Expensive, but worth every penny!!
