The idea sounds good. But a recording of a kick drum, or tambourine or whatever is going to be exactly the same every strike which does not sound authentic. The volume knob on the one I tried was set from really loud to unuseably loud. I couldn't turn it down enough to fit in the mix.
Another problem is it only has an "out" so cannot be added into my chain.
This one is going back.
Instead, I will be using a miced cajon.
