Mapex Horizon HZB Big City 5-Piece Shell Pack
Comments about Mapex Horizon HZB Big City 5-Piece Shell Pack:
Shipping from Music123:
UPS regular ground, took 3 days to reach my doorstep... Most excellent!
Out of the box:
Packed very well from the mapex factory, in two boxes. Shells were perfect in circle, barren edges 90deg. perfect. The dark cherry red transparent finish flawless, and all but one lug was perfect. The threading in the lug was not smooth, took more effort than I would like... I will be having that replaced.
Set up:
After getting the heads on, the drums really tuned up easily. All was left was to mount the toms and floor tom, add my existing hardware for snare, cymbal. HH, and kick peddle, and was playing within an hour of taking out of the box.
Sound:
Kick- layed in a small amount of foam, just touching the head and began tuning. I got a pretty good low "Blat" that I was happy with...
Snare- Tuned med. tight with some ring... Sound was very snappy, great crack, defined ghost notes.... Not a very warm woody sound you usually get with maple shells though.
Toms- Nice birchy tone with lots of resonance.
First time miced up for a live gig:
Beautiful tone all around. Snare preformed as well as I expected, toms were exceptional, and kick was EQ'd for a great low punch.
Overall: Great kit for the price paid. Fantasic Mapex quality, beautiful color, hardware looks great!
Sound met my expectations. AAA+++
The only negative, the threading in one of the FT lugs.
