Mapex Black Panther hardware
The cylinder-drive strainer uses a self-lubricating bearing to ensure smooth operation while providing minute control of the snare tension. Mapex's piston-style throw-off is incredibly smooth and requires minimal effort to operate, and the adjustment dial employs micro-lock technology that provides a tactile click as it's turned, allowing precise control.
Sonic Saver Hoop
The Sonic Saver Hoop bridges the gap between flanged hoops and die cast hoops. A unique shaping process creates a profile that reduces wear and tear to both sticks and hands while dramatically enhancing the response and feel of every rimshot.
The Sonic Saver is significantly lighter than a conventional die-cast hoop, so it won't choke the shell's vibration. The result is a more natural percussive sound with much greater resonance.
This Mapex Black Panther Blaster snare features stainless steel snare wires for crisp, lively action, and premium Remo drum heads, including a coated Ambassador batter head.

Comments about Mapex Black Panther Blaster Snare Drum:
This is the perfect snare for funk. If you like a snare with a nice ping and powerful rim shots this is the drum for you. I bought mine a couple years back and it records great and has the most presence of any drum I've ever played with live. The response of this drum is also spectacular; every ghost note is clear as opposed to some drums where it can get muffled and go unnoticed.
Unfortunately, because it is so powerful, it is only good for gigs that call for a pingy drums like this; this is not a metal or rock snare it is built for funk and progressive jazz. Also, it can be touchy with tuning the snare response even with the dual adjustment.
I recommend thin heads top and bottom and cranking them. POWER CENTER HEADS AND OTHER DAMPING AIDS WILL MAKE IT SOUND TERRIBLE. Don't waste your money on power center reverse dots for this drum.
Overall, if you tune it in the sweet spot you won't want to play with any other snare.
