Ludwig

A timeless American-made classic snare.

The Ludwig Supraphonic Snare Drum features chrome metal shell construction that offers a bright, cutting, and crisp sound found on a multitude of classic pop and jazz hits of the last several decades. The Supraphonic snares are wonderfully responsive, a quality that's further enhanced by their triple-flanged hoops. The 6-1/2" deep version produces deep, fat tone and great projection. 10 classic lugs, with a P-85 throw-off. A versatile drum that's perfect for styles ranging from symphonic to arena rock.

Best Snare Made

By A Andrew Grabowski

from Buffalo, NY

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

I have owned a Ludwig Supraphonic Snare since 1965 and have found it far superior to any manufactured today. Although the price has risen steadily, I would certainly recommend this drum.

There Is No Better Snare - a snare drum for all styles

By tacitusld

from Australia

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

I have played many brands of snare drum. The Ludwig supra phonic & super sensitive models are durable ( I have one that is 40 years old), and can be tuned to suit any style of playing & music. I have just purchased a new 6.5x14 Supra phonic and the sound is the same (a little deeper) as my old 5x14. You cannot go wrong with this superb instrument.

Don't settle for anything less than the best!!!

By B Jay

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

My parents bought me the Supra Phonic when I was learning how to play in elementary school. Since that time, my Supra Phonic and I have been everywhere. In middle school and high school, my snare went with us to concerts all over the bay area and every year to state contest in Concert Band and in Jazz Band. I joined a group of Just for Fun musicians to finance my way through college and my Supra Phonic was always there in the center of my 5-piece outfit. The Supra Phonic was and still is the only snare that I'll ever use. It has a beautiful clear and crisp sound. It's also a very versatile snare and it's lasted all these years!!! The Supra Phonic is a must buy, if you want value that far exceeds the price. It's a superior snare that'll last a lifetime!!!

Still the best all-around snare drum

By Snowdog

from NY

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

Although the drum's shell is aluminum not steel, the point is that the LM-400/402 series of seamless-shelled drums are still the best all-around snare drums available anywhere at any price. When recording engineers need a great studio snare drum they use a Supraphonic or Super Sensitive. When touring pros need a great versatile snare drum they use a Supraphonic or Super Sensitive. There's a reason why these drums have remained at the top of the list for over 40 years. It's a simple design that's durable, versatile and sounds great. What more does anyone need?

excellent

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

i bought this and at first i was a little disapointed because i was looking for the bonham sound. I soon came to relaize that the heads are a very important part of this snare and i put a remo coated emperor on the batter, and a coated ambassador on the resonant and i was very pleased. These are the heads bonham used

best snare

By drummerman

from ohio

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

This snare is older than I am. It was originally some jazz drummers, then a guy down the street, then my brothers, and now mine. I have never had a single problem with snare and it is a real workhorse. This snare can outlast you!

My new favorite snare

By t-A1I1k

from Maine

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

I just bought one of these and I absolutely love it. I have always been the "anti-piccolo" drummer, but this drum has changed my mind. Can't believe the fatness, crack, sensitivity and volume. Beautiful tone. My bandmates love it too.

Rated Number 1 by Modern Drummer

By Michael Turner-HVonx

from Eden, North Carolina

Comments about Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare Drum:

The Ludwig Supra Phonic is probably the world's best snare. The newer Chrome over Brass Shell is definitely the best. I have a 1961 Chrome over Brass known in the early 60's as the Super-Ludwig.I also have a 2003 Limited Edition Chrome over Brass Shell that sounds equally as great. This is the drum to have for a variety of musical styles from classical to rock and roll. The most recorded snare drum in history .
