A Ludwig tradition for over 70 years!
The Ludwig Black Beauty snare drum is considered one of the most desirable drums ever made. The seamless, one piece brass beaded shell provides the legendary balanced metallic-yet-warm sound and ease of tuning that this classic drum is famous for, while the Supra-Phonic snares and classic P-85 snare throw-off provide the unmatched sensitivity professionals demand. The antique black anodized shell, chrome hardware, and imperial lugs make the Black Beauty strikingly beautiful.
If you need even more volume and presence, this 14 x 6-1/2" snare is for you. It delivers meaty rimshots with clarity and projection when slammed, but still retains ultimate sensitivity when lightly tapped.

One step to amazing
Comments about Ludwig Supraphonic Black Beauty Snare Drum:
I bought this snare with the hammered shell and I was amazed with the crisp sound it delivered. I did replace the snare strands with a puresound blaster and WOW!!! It was just amazing and powerful. I'm a 60s' rock and roll fan and love the deep sound as well.

Simply the Best
Comments about Ludwig Supraphonic Black Beauty Snare Drum:
In my 30 years as both a session and live performer this snare has always been the top brass snare period. It has a very lucid sound that can cut through anything. The only other snares I own that come close are my Ayotte custom and DW, But they are of course double the price!Honourable mention should go out to the Rogers Dynasonic. If you are looking for a great all around snare this is it!

Very Good Snare
Comments about Ludwig Supraphonic Black Beauty Snare Drum:
I'm only 13. I got my Black Beauty Snare 2 years ago and I still use it. It has a very crisp sound and it is very loud on my part. It is a very good drum to use on a drumset.

The finest classic tradition
Comments about Ludwig Supraphonic Black Beauty Snare Drum:
I play a Pearl Export kit, but I've heard and I believe that Ludwig always has made the finest metal snare drums in the industry. That tradition is well-proven in this product. I formerly played Ludwig's Supra-Phonic 400 chrome snare for years, and finally decided to upgrade to the 5 X 14 Black Beauty. I play rock, and the sharp clarity and brilliance of this snare cut through my partners' guitar amps with a clean, crisp attack. Ludwig's ultra-thin snare bottom head keeps it sounding very sensitive. The original batter head is quite good, although I eventually replaced it with my preferred Remo coated Powerstroke 3. I've heard it said that this snare is the standard against which all other metals are measured, and I have to believe that as true. And there's a reason why other competitors have attempted to simulate the BB even in its looks. But there is no mistaking the genuine article. If you want the sound of a metal snare, you can pay more for an autographed "signature" model from another manufacturer, or you can invest in the traditional excellence of this highest caliber snare.

Punch and Finesse!!
Comments about Ludwig Supraphonic Black Beauty Snare Drum:
I own one of these, beside several vintage Black Beauties, and I was thrilled to hear the sound of the new one. Just like the vintage drums! Aesthetically, they are beautiful. It PUNCHES and CRACKS, and you can finesse it too, just like it's vintage Great-Grandad. The price to acquire on of these is so within reach. Greatly versatile snare drum!

Quality snare
Comments about Ludwig Supraphonic Black Beauty Snare Drum:
Great solid snare crack with a good contained sustain and no need for any dampening. The brass shell gives the drum warmth and a bite that'll cut through any bass/guitar rig. Great option to have in any live/studio application. Very happy with my purchase!
