I purchased this throw off to upgrade the one that came on my Ludwig Black Magic 6.5" x 14" snare. I can honestly say that I am not dissappointed! It stays locked in place, easy to adjust, has very smooth action, and when you change from the on & off position, it doesn't make that SLAP sound like some of even the pricier throw offs do. Not to mention w/ the engraving, it looks really cool as well. The only downside is, in order for this to fit, you have to drill a hole in your shell because the spacing on the mounting brackets is wider than the original. On the upside, when the new strainer is installed you can't even see the other hole and it doesn't make a difference in sound either. For anyone who purchased a Black Magic snare, I would highly recommend this upgrade!!! Like I mentioned before in other reviews about the snare, the shell, tube lugs, and hoops are great. The rest of the components that come with it are just crap!!!

I bought a used black Ludwig acrolite. The original P-85 throw-off would gradually get loose after a few songs. I replaced it with the P-86 and have been using it for about 6 months and have had no problems what so ever. The P-86 is a perfect bolt on with no alterations whatsoever to the Blacrolite.

I bought a Black Beauty, and the P-85 strainer was far from adequate. The strainer arm extended over the rim, I would hit my fingers and the stick would hit it, sometimes dislodging the snares. I had to rotate the drum to avoid this, which left the throw off hard to access. The P-86 is the perfect solution. Easy to switch out, a much better design, lower profile. The snares actually sound better now.
