These Giovanni drums are incredible!

By Hank

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about LP Galaxy Giovanni Series Conga:

I agree that the quinto and requinto have ringing metallic overtones for some people. I use two congas for my high (quinto) and mid range and a tumba for my low end. Coincidentally, I traded my requinto and quinto with another gentleman for the two Giovanni congas. His technique/hand anatomy generated very little metallic ringing when he auditioned them.

Best Percussion Drums Ever Made!

By Dale Schrichten

from Thousand Oaks, CA

Comments about LP Galaxy Giovanni Series Conga:

I purchase the whole set of four drums and the bongos when they were first introduced. There is nothing like them. They are powerful, warm, they pop and snap with definition, and the deep rich tones carry beautifully in a large concert hall. I am constantly complimented on how great the drums load on stage under the different lighting and how tremendous they sound when I really get moving on them in upbeat Latin jazz. If you are serious about your percussion drums don't waste your time looking anywhere else because these drums are happening!

Use a Conga as a Quito

By John Martinez

from Los Angeles, CA.

Comments about LP Galaxy Giovanni Series Conga:

The last review suggested that the Giovani Quinto has some questionable sounds and by installing a synthetic head might solve the problem. I say, leave the quito for those sprititual "jungle" sounding jams at the park. Use the conga as a quinto like Raul Recko does. You keep your highs and pops and can still dish out a musical sounding open note. Also, the sound resonates better from a conga being used as the quinto drum or lead high pitched drum. Perfect set up is two congas and a fat sounding Giovani tumba. Or two tumbas and a conga. Then you're rocking. By the way, I heard Raul Reco not to long ago. They are kicking up the volume on the PA more than usual and he's filling in a lot of space with that Giovani/Raul technique. I thought I saw him with some Giovani Galaxi's.

most well constructed and finished

By babis/greece

from athens/greece

Comments about LP Galaxy Giovanni Series Conga:

I am provided with all 4 sizes of these congas.Truly, those are the most well constructed and finished wood congas ever made. As about the sound: conga and tumbadora (11 3/4, 12 1/2)constitute the perfect pair of wood congas performing with a sonorous and warm sound.Quinto and requinto face remarkable problem with overtones, producing metallic sound in any range of tuning. According to my opinion this is due to the very fine rawhide heads those are fitted with. Probably by using synthetic heads the problem could be eliminated.
