The SC-XHat is a great way to add a pair of hats to your kit at an extemely low price.
I like that it will thread down on any 8mm stand and that it has a clutch for the bottom cymbal. This comes in handy if you tilt the hats as it keeps the lower cymbal snug (or not if you don't use it).
The main concern is actually both a plus and a minus;
The hats tend to spin around as you hit them which causes the gap to change. If you strike it one direction it will slowly tighten. If you hit it the other way it will slowly loosen.
This caught me off guard when I first tried the piece. And I am still not sure that I like this fact or love it.
On one hand it is another way to get the right sound on the fly. On the other hand it means the hat is not quite the same when you play.
All in all, I really like the SC-XHat and would probably buy another one....and I am a Tama hardware only guy.
