I bought this head to replace the head of a small (8") drum with 4 lugs. It came with a single ply Attack drum head installed, which was okay but required a little gel to reduce excess resonance. This is sometimes a necessary evil, but my true feeling is that this chokes the drum, and if you just put the right head on your drum it is a better deal all the way around. The Evans hydraulic is the right head, especially when you are dealing with smaller high pitched drums- great sound, attack and focus. The 2 ply head also stays more accurately in tune for a longer time.
