The stands I purchased have the 'tech-lok' tops. I agree with the previous reviewer that the new version is definitely inferior. SOOOOOOOO...DW gets TWO points off for going cheap on a great product. These also are limited to cymbals only. I tried to mount a tom just to see what would happen. It didn't tip over BUT it wobbled to the point that it wa useless for that purpose. I'm sure John Good would argue that it wasn't really designed for that purpose and he would be right. All in all, I like these stands a lot.

Great quality stands for the vintage look and for drummers concerned with the weight of their hardware bag.Unfortunately, after a couple of product redesigns, these stands are not as good as they used to be. Primarily, the problem is that DW has stopped using their excellent toothless tilter and adjustable cymbal seat with a captive wingnut and replaced it with a generic, toothed tilter with smaller felts and no cymbal seat adjustability. This tilter belongs on an entry level cymbal stand, not a lightweight professional one.
