Killer Kick Mic

Comments about Audix D6 Sub Impulse Kick Drum Mic:

I have been playing drums for over 40 years, and I have had many mics in my kick drum. The Audix D6 is the best kick mic I have ever had the pleasure of using and owning. If you are in need a new kick mic, this is the one to get. Pre-EQ'd, just plug it in and play. No feed back, just awesome punch.

I am a believer!

Comments about Audix D6 Sub Impulse Kick Drum Mic:

Great mic! I am a total believer! Picked one of these up for a project with my band - and I can not believe how fantastic the kick drum sounds with it - straight out of the box, no eq, no fussing. It may be a little one dimensional - it's definitely tailored to the "rock" sound. But I was able to get a few different sounds with it based on it's position and drum tuning. Great mic. Worth the $.

Hit Or Miss

By David Barnett

from Little Rock, AR

Comments about Audix D6 Sub Impulse Kick Drum Mic:

In my view the D6, like most Audix mics, is a bit hit-or-miss. Sometimes it's the perfect mic for the application, sometimes it falls flat. If you mix only hard rock or metal bands, the D6 works fine. It's got tons of sub-60Hz boom and high frequency click, and not much of anything in between. It's also a lifesaver if you're faced with a kick drum with no hole in the head, since it cuts out the boxy tone you get from those. But if the drummer isn't a heavy hitter, the dynamics of this mic seem to just vanish in the mix. And it's too unsubtle for music where the kick drum isn't necessarily mixed up-front. It's a useful tool when appropriate, but I would never rely on it as my #1 go-to kick drum mic for all applications; the Beta 52 or the Sennheiser are better all-rounders.

Easiest way to a killer kick drum sound....

By Colin-phL32

from Calgary, Alberta

Comments about Audix D6 Sub Impulse Kick Drum Mic:

Seriously folks, it doesn't get any easier than this. Yes, I've used other mics on my bass drum, but as a drummer and sound tech I can tell you that I've never used another mic that has made it easier to get a great bass drum sound than the D6. Unlike other mics, this one is already eq'd correctly for a deep low end with just enough highs to catch the "click" of the bass drum beater. Sure, there are lots of great mics out there for bass drums, but if you're a drummer working with an amatuer sound tech who doesn't know how to eq a kick drum correctly then this mic is definately worth a look and listen.
