I own a 1300 series (silver headjoint and body) alto flute. The moment I picked it up for the first time, I knew I wanted to keep it. The tone on it is incredible, the response excellent, and the action on the keys is wonderful. In addition, the overall workmanship and appearance of the instrument could not be better. A friend who is a much more experienced player than I confirmed my first impressions by playing it for me. He agreed that the tone is exceptional. I most highly recommend this flute for somebody wanting to own a professional quality alto flute.
I can't say that I've played very many alto flutes, but this one sounds great. It's not hard to play at all. The tone is very rich and resonant. It's kind of haunting actually. The higher notes are a bit hollow sounding though. I've tried it with the strait and curved headjoints. I have to say the strait one was actually kind of painful for me. I think comfort is very important to a persons playing ability, so I would recommend the curved head.
I purchased my instrument from this site during the holiday season and received it within a week. The service was great and I have enjoyed playing the DiMedici 1217SE. It is a very responsive flute and with a little embouchure adjustment it plays in tune. I love doing those Brazilian Bossas with this flute. The tone quality in just wonderful, almost intoxicating. It seems that I do not want to put this flute down.
