Perfect for all vocal applications.

The Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic is a new take on an old classic. The Beta 87 was consistently a top choice of performers and audio technicians due to its accuracy, detail, and rich vocal production. Now this longstanding favorite has been redesigned as the Shure Beta 87A. It has a thicker handle that gives a more comfortable feel when hand-held. It also includes a new break-resistant swivel adapter and low-frequency roll-off to compensate for proximity effect and to prevent boominess. The supercardioid pattern provides high gain-before-feedback, and its 3-stage pop filter minimizes breath pop and noise. Frequency response: 50Hz-18kHz.
Requires phantom power.

Features
  • Supercardioid electret condenser mic
  • Redesigned with a thicker shank for hand-held comfort
  • Break-resistant swivel adapter
  • Low-frequency roll-off
  • 3-stage pop filter

Comments about Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic:

i brought this mic about a year and a half ago, i dropped it several times, left it right infront of the air conditioner overnight, and it sounds just as good as the day i got it, it has a really nice presence, sounds bright, but not cheap bright, i use with a tube preamp "solo 610" and it sounds fantastic, i mean REALLY, a friend of mine has a newman ksm 105 and it sounds more open than this one, but this sounds better in my opinion, it colors the sound a little but doesnt muffle it at all, and it really loves tube pre`s, through my solo 610, it sounds like gold sparks, i will not buy any other mic for live purposes until this one gives up on me, buy it, you gonna like what you ear unless your signal chain is a disaster.

Who Needs A Neumann?

By Al Epstein

from New Rochelle, NY

Comments about Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic:

Mics are my weakness. I own a vast collection of handheld lead vocal mics from the Neumann KMS105 to the Audio Technica AE 5400 & Rode S1. Also add the Electro Voice RE510 & ND967,and the Audix OM7. When it comes to performing live I keep reaching for the Shure Beta87A before the gig. This mic blows them all away. It cuts through the mix of a loud rock band with an incredible clarity. It imparts a smooth velvety quality to my voice that really gets a crowd's attention. The high end is bright without ever being harsh and I never touch my EQ controls anymore. It sounds fantastic flat. The integrated pop filter works well, eliminating plosives, and the gain before feedback is tremendous. If you want the world's best live vocal mic for less than half the price of a Neumann, this is the one!

Awesome Mic!

By Pedro Gutierrez

from Newark, CA

Comments about Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic:

Great accuracy, clarity, and presence. Very open and natural. This mic is great. I just purchased the Neumann KM40, expecting it to be a mic that would knock me off my feet. I was impressed by the KM40, but not to the point where I would actually say that it blows away the Shure mics. In comparison with the KM40, The Beta 87 is not far off at all, as far as sound is concerned, and the KM40 is more than twice as much. The only thing I would suggest is that folks be careful with the verb you choose to use with this mic. I find that the TC electronic verbs make this mic sound way too bright and harsh. Lexicon made it sound much warmer. Hope this helped.

The Shure Beta 87A - Can't Be Beat

By Tim-dNSZ.

from South Plainfield, New Jersey, USA

Comments about Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic:

This mic was well worth every penny that I payed for it. I bought it new and it's a pretty microphone... The sound is chrystal clear and completely eliminates that "Gee! I feel like I'm singing in a box" sound of the old SM58. This mic is condenser, studio quality in a rugged, live performance package. I love this mic. Luckily, I have a nice voice to begin with (according to what others say...) and this mic just brings out the best in my voice. Silky smooth - amazing microphone. I would have gladly paid list for this. It was well worth my money and would be well worth yours too. Highly recommended - this is the ultimate live performance microphone.

The Shure Beta 87A - Can't Be Beat!

By Tim-dNSZ.

Comments about Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic:

This is a completely amazing mic! I'd like to be critical, but I haven't been able to find any faults yet! This is a condenser mic in a rugged, live performance package. Because of its supercardioid design, it has completely eliminated feedback. Amazing mic and well worth your money. If you want the best live performance mic that money can buy - look no further. Also, by the way, this mic does survive the famous Shure Drop Test...

Not as Clear as the OM6

By Bill Z

from usa

Comments about Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic:

I was somewhat disappointed in this mic compared to the Audix OM6. The SM87a seems to be the mic for female vocalist these days, but I found it somewhat veiled sounding in side by side comparison under real live use. Of course I'll continue to use what ever the Vocalist prefers especially if they bring their own. But if the choice is mine to make I'll go with the OM6 for now.

Goodbye feedback!!!

By David L.

from SE USA

Comments about Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic:

I just love this mic. My confidence, while performing on stage, or recording in the studio had tremendously increased due to the superb quality the Beta 87 has assured me. No more muffled low notes, or annoying pops and such from p words. Feedback, also has became a thing of the past for our group since switching to these mics. There pickup pattern successfully blocks out noise coming from frontal items such as stage monitors. If your in the market for a quality mic, don't pass this one by. It is very well priced any yet performs like a mic that would cost you a hundred or so more.
