I bought this drum several years ago and it is of very high quality, not at all a "toy" drum. My son, now 8 years old, often deals with his strong emotions by retreating to his room and banging on this drum! I'm surprised it is still in such good shape but it is, and continues to be one of the better gifts I've given! Now it is a preferred baby gift to new parents!

This drum is a first birthday present for my grand daughter. She has had access to one at the YWCA where she is in a baby class. They don't call it "gathering" drum for nothing - the babies congregate, sit on, beat on this drum. With her mother's permission I bought one for her birthday that is not until October, but when mom is away I pull it out of the car. At 10 months she has taken to using the drum sticks - two handed - to hit on the drums. The child is developing quite a beat.

This drum looks so interesting that the children just can't wait to get their hands on it. They also love to use it. I use it to cue that it's time to sit in a circle around it.

I use the Remo Gathering Drum in my Kindermusik classes. The children love to gather around it and echo rhythms or play their own. As many as eight 2-4 year olds can gather around the drum. I have also used the Gathering Drum with children who have autism. While sitting (yes, sitting) on the drum, the child can feel soothing rhythms which in turn have proven calming to many who have difficulty relaxing and focusing. I highly recommend this durable, yet beautiful sounding Gathering Drum.
