Comments about Jo-Ral 1A Tenor Trombone Straight Mute:
Something that I think we all notice when using mutes is the affect is has on the tone and the pitch. I have a Jo-Ral straight mute with the copper bottom and absolutely love this mute. I usually practice with a mute in the trombone most of the time because 1: our practice rooms at the college are far from soundproof and 2: it helps to develop breath support. I've had no problems maintaining tone or pitch with this mute. The range of pieces I work on are typically from a low F (space under bottom G line in Bass Cleff) to a high ledger line G, A, or Bb.
