The classic wow-wow mute!

The Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow is a favorite effects mute. The "wah-wah" sound is made by a sliding cup in the end of the mute. Famous musicians have used and endorsed Harmon mutes for over 25 years. Made entirely of aluminum, the Harmon B Model is free-blowing and does not alter or change the pitch in any way.

Truly amazing. Miles used one, and so did most of the great trumpet players who wanted this kind of sound. It feels quite open. Its good on all registers and the sound is marvelous. You do have to be careful to insert the mute correctly or it will keep falling off.

The mute falls out of the bell. This is a very bad thing to happen when I'm playing a solo, or just playing in my swing band. I've sanded the cork which oddly, didn't help, and I've moistened the bell just before I play. The mute stays in but I don't think I should have to do that. I've used Harmon for over 50 years but I can't trust this one any longer.

Comments about Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow Mute:

I purchased this mute to replace the same brand and model after more than 40 years of service. What I received was what I expected -- the very same mute, only new. This is the standard for jazz players, the one that composers call for on the chart -- Harmon Mute. The consistency of sound is striking, either playing solo or in ensemble with other trumpets. I'm glad that the manufacturers haven't changed the design or materials for this mute; I guess you can't improve on perfection.

        Popular, But...

Comments about Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow Mute:

Most players seem to love this, the original Wah-Wah mute. I don't. It plays incurably sharp in the lower register of my horns, the slide is balky, and it seems to collect dents quickly. Although it's beautiful to look at (until the dents multiply), and the sound is good, it's not as flexible as I'd like. I will say that dents do not affect the sound or intonation one bit. I keep mine to use when I encounter a director who insists on a Harmon.

The mute was shipped on time with the standards of most any Harmon mute. The pricing was midrange on a scale of one to ten.

Great price for such great mute.

Comments about Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow Mute:

I had been working in music for about 17 years. I had never use the wow wow mute. Now with it, I feel like I have a totally new instrument. It gives so many playing options for the trumpet. Perfect sound, smooth and warm. Great for jazz solos or for practicing. And this is the best price of any other music store. Don't hesitate, buy it and you will discover a totally new dimension in your trumpet playing.

        You can do better

Comments about Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow Mute:

On the plus side, I had this mute for about a decade before finally needing to replace it. But it has trouble staying in the bell and its tone is harsher than other Harmon mutes on the market.

        Nice Mute

        By

Comments about Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow Mute:

I'm new to mutes, however, the sound from this mute is very good for jazz. Slightly lower sound than I expected, but I'm satisfied with my purchase. One negative thing is that the aluminum one is very thin and easily dents. Be very careful when using. I haven't had problems with it falling out.

I have bought 30 different kinds of Marmen mutes, and the Wow Wow mute has been the best one I have ever bought. I am a band teacher and when I choose a song for my students that needs a Harmen mute I tell them to get a Wow Wow.

        the ultimate mellow jazz mute

        By

        from southwest Ohio

Comments about Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow Mute:

For those of you whose bell taper makes it hard to keep this mute in, try exhaling into the bell just before placing the mute. It will stick like glue, yet will remove with a quick twist. My only complaint is with the stem. Over time, it has become loose.

        The Must Have Jazz Mute

        By

        from Illinois

Comments about Harmon B Model Aluminum Trumpet Wow-Wow Mute:

This mute is the best mute I have ever come across. If you are considering playing in any type of Jazz ensemble, you will absolutely need one of these sooner or later. It has two different types of playing styles. The first one has the stem in. It really takes away from the sound volume, but gives the trumpet a sharper sound. When the stem is removed, sound volume is greater than before and it has more of a humming sound. The only thing I dislike about this mute is its poor durability. You need to be careful because the way the mute is structured leaves it vulnerable to denting. Other than that, it is a great must to solo on. Miles Davis often used this kind of mute in many of his performances. This mute is obviously a very wise and worthwhile purchase.
