I purchased the Etude trombone to see what $99.00 would get me for an instrument. These days it's possible to buy a 'reputable' brand instrument and find that even it was made in China. I teach beginning band and would not be unhappy if a student brought this instrument in for his/her first lesson. Sure, we encourage students to buy name brands but with today's unemployment levels, I'd be happy for a kid to play this trombone. The bell is a bit on the thin side but it rings well. The slide feels great (no oil included). A big surprise was the case. It is a molded plastic with latches. Often an 'off brand' instrument will come in one of those styrofoam and fabric cases that have no hinges and zippers that tear out the case covering all too soon. This Etude trombone blows freely and while I haven't checked it with a tuner, I'm happy with the way I could place the slide for my own ear's intonation.
