Excellent clarity and focus.
The range of Denis Wick Tuba mouthpieces covers every aspect of tuba playing from the solo work, the brass quintet, the brass band and the symphony orchestra. They all offer different compromises in richness of sound, flexibility, and clarity. They are used by the best symphonic professionals and village bandsmen alike. It is true to say that these mouthpieces have been largely responsible for the tremendous improvement in amateur tuba playing over the past 30 years in the UK, but Denis Wick tuba mouthpieces have enjoyed success all over the world. Single numbers (without "L") are for older makes of European tubas with small mouthpiece fittings. "L" models suit all modern instruments, especially German-type designs.

Comments about Denis Wick Bass Tuba Mouthpiece in Gold:
I picked up a Denis Wick 1L as my second mouthpiece and used it for several years through my intermediate playing in high school and early university, and I found it to be an excellent all around mouthpiece for everything from brass bands, to wind ensembles, to orchestras, to quintets. The larger mouthpieces do however take a lot of face. Good range, good control, good tone, excellent volume and projection. I'd definitely recommend it for any student looking for a step up to a serious mouthpiece.
